This study focuses on the preparation of gelatin nanoparticles by nanoprecipitation method. The principal parameters studied were the concentration of emulsifier, time of emulsifier addition, concentration of gelatin in solvent phase and the nonsolvent volume. Besides the effect of type of
nonsolvent was also studied. The yield was calculated gravimetrically after freeze drying. The nanoparticles were characterized for size and morphology by scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the emulsifier is extremely important to obtain the stable nanoparticles. Replacing ethanol (nonsolvent) with methanol and n-propanol led to aggregation, and subsequently higher yield of dried mass. Gelatin particles of the size less than 100nm could be obtained. By large, the present result demonstrates that nanoprecipitation can be successfully used to fabricate gelatin nanoparticles.
