It is well known issue that diluted products comparing with the feed solution are obtained from the output streams of simulated moving bed (SMB) chromatography. Dilution of separated products occur by excess desorbent flow for regeneration of zone Ⅰ and zone Ⅳ, in conventional four-zone SMB. The purpose of this work is to increase the enrichment of products by modified operation of product stream flows to conserve established conventional SMB.
The two case of isotherm models, linear and Langmuir isotherms1,2, were applied and discontinuous flow changes were adopted to control the overall flow rate of output streams in each switching time. Concentration profiles in zone I and Ⅳ were shifted and enriched products were observed as a result of the modulation of product stream flow rates
