Isolation and Identification of Anti-microbial Agent from Volatile Oils

초록

영어

According to the increasing awareness of healthy life style, finishing textiles with antimicrobial agents have gained in popularity over recent years. However, consumers and manufacturers still remain, unsatisfied with some problems such as cost, safety and permanence etc. Essential oils, also named as volatile oils, are obtained from plant materials and have been shown to possess antimicrobial properties. In the previous study, 24 volatile oils from plants were chosen as candidates for developing novel agents. Compound EO-1 was separated successfully from the sample D as following the activity-isolation guidance. The inhibitory effect of the compound was examined against gram-positive bacterium Staphylococcus aureus and gram-negative bacterium Klebsiella pneumonia by disc diffusion method. The clear zone of inhibition above 20 mm in diameter was exhibited on both species at the concentration of 10%(v/v), which can be used in functional textile industry.
