The purpose of this study is to analyze about Chinese books purchased in the reign of Jeongjo(正祖) and examine the effect what these books weighed with Joseon Dynasty. The results of the analysis and examination are as follows: First, in the reign of Jeongjo, there were vigorously buying of Sung Confucianism books and Confucian scriptures activity. Also, it was being propelled to buy like statute and political theory books, practical science books, western scientific technique books and one series. On the other hand, anthologies of the period from late Ming to early Qing and novels, block book of China(唐板本), Catholicism books were prohibited.Second, observed 21 books now in Kyujanggak(奎章閣) among 33 Chinese books. In the matter of form, Panshimeomi(版心魚尾) was simple usually and the book sizes were small and longish things. In bookbinding method, they were set almost by 4 pins according to Chinese traditional way. But some 4 types was settled by 5 pins.Third, Jeongjo's intention to buy it in historical truth weighed with actual books buying more, compared to the plan written ꡔNaegak bangseorok(內閣訪書錄)ꡕ.Forth, divided 33 Chinese books into Sung Confucianism(性理學) books and Practical Learning(實學) books. After that, found out many reading records and practical use instances of these Chinese books.

본 연구는 정조조에 구입된 중국본에 관해 분석하고, 이들 서적이 조선사회에 끼친 영향을 규명하여, 해당 시기에 대한 이해를 넓히는 데 그 목적을 두었다. 연구 결과를 간략히 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 정조조에는 성리학 서적과 유교 경전의 구입이 가장 활발하게 이루어졌다. 또 정법류 서적․의서․병서 등 실용서, 서양 과학 기술 관련 서적, 총서의 구입이 추진되었다. 한편 명말청초 문집 및 소설류 서적, 당판본, 천주교 서적이 대표적 구입 금지 서적으로 나타났다. 둘째, 정조조에 구입된 것으로 추정되는 규장각 소장 중국본 21종을 실사한 결과 형태적인 측면에서는 대체로 판심어미의 형태가 단순하며, 판형이 작고 길쭉한 것이 많음을 알 수 있었다. 제책 방식은 중국 전통 방식에 따라 사침안으로 편철된 것이 많았으나, 오침안으로 편철된 서적도 4종이 있었다. 셋째, 실제 구입된 중국본의 주제를 검토한 결과, ꡔ內閣訪書錄ꡕ의 계획보다는 사료에서 나타나는 정조의 구입 의지가 실제 서적 구입에 보다 큰 영향을 끼쳤던 것으로 판단되었다. 한편 실제 구입된 중국본 중 정조가 구입을 금지하였던 명말청초 문집, 수진본, 천주교 서적이 포함되어 있었으나, 그 수량이 미미하였다. 넷째, 중국본 33종을 성리학 관련 중국본과 실학 관련 중국본으로 구분하고, 독서 기록과 활용 사례에 대해 살펴보았다. 분석 결과 이들 중국본은 지식인층에서 광범위하게 읽혔으며, 활용 사례 또한 다양하게 나타남을 알 수 있었다.
