A Structure-colored Study. To glitter

영어
Like jewelry, changing bright color or strong luster, seen in some tropical flowers, insects, bird feathers, fish scales and shells, such as pearl and ammolite, has attracted people since ancient times. They are called ″ Structural Color‶ or ″Physical Color‶ and are well known to be caused by optical phenomena, such as interference, diffraction or scattering from the morphological microstructure (i.e .multilayer, grating or grains) on their body surface or cross section with similar order of wavelength of observing light. Adopting the mechanism of structural color, various applications in automobile, textile and cosmetic industry, have recently developed to create clean and gentle color for human health and environment, substituting for any hazardous chemical dye materials. The aim of my present study is to try to solve two problems described below on structural color, based on noble 2 dimensional colorimetric point of view: 1. Relationship between metallic elements and structural color. 2. Opitical characteristics of multilayer structure. In this study, 2 dimensional spectrocolorimeter; CI-1040i (MINOLTA), micro-area spectroscope; USPM-RUII (OLYMPUS) and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) are mainly utilized to analyse the following seven specimens: Rainbow Ammonite and Noutilus, Hydrochara libera SHARP (existing and fossil), Plateumaris constricticollis chugakueusis (existing), Plateumaris(fossil) and Chrysolina vigat obscurofaciata Jacoby(existing).
