One of the biggest problems in the correctional studies in Korea is that it is subordinated to social science and law. And also it can be said that such a character is due to its dependence on the methodology of positivism. For this reason we can point out that the character of Korean Corrections still does not overcome the normative category of social science or law.
If we call such a negative character as "empirical conservatism", the result eventually will be limited to "occupational myopia" and "system maintenance commitments" from the perspective of scientific investigation and education. On this reasoning a trial to overcome the norm of corrections can be formulated as 'how to critically overcome the fixation of the formality of the present normative science and following such a fixation'?
Such an idea can be suggested as "a new inquiry on a discourse of corrections", and such a concrete attempt can be said as the human scientifical approach to the inquiry of correction.
Such a concrete methodology is to enhance and maximize 'the human scientifical imagination' or "the deviative imagination" from "the rehabilitation of the Utopian energy". However, it seems that such a methodological issue depends on how to coordinate rhetorical function of human science. Such a coordination will prohibit corrections falling into a praxisless theory through the interdisciplinary approach of various human sciences.

한국 교정학 연구의 제일 큰 문제는 교정학 자체가 사회과학 및 법학에 종속적으로 위치하고 있다는 점이다. 또한 그러한 위상의 성격은 실증주의적 방법론에 천착되어 있다는 점으로 지적될 수 있고, 그런 까닭에 한국 교정학의 성격은 사회과학적 혹은 법학적 규범범주를 벗어나지 못하고 있다는 점으로 문제 제기를 할 수 있을 것이다.
그러한 부정적 성격을 ‘경험적 보수주의’라고 지칭한다면, 결국 그 과정은 학문연구와 교육 측면에서 ‘직업적 근시안’을 양산하고 ‘체제유지적 참여역할’의 성격을 산출하는 결과를 빚게 될 것이다. 교정학의 탈규범적 시도는 이러한 의미로 ‘현 규범학 틀의 고착성과 그러한 고착성에 대한 답습주의를 어떻게 비판 극복할 수 있는가’로 문맥화될 수 있을 것으로 보인다.
그러한 구상은 ‘교정학 담론의 새로운 모색’으로 제시될 수 있고, 그러한 구체적 시도는 교정학 탐구의 인문학적 접근이라 할 수 있다. 이러한 구체적 방법론은 사유에 있어 ‘유토피아적 에너지의 재흥’을 통해 ‘인문학적 상상력’ 혹은 ‘일탈적 상상력’을 고양하고 극대화하는 일이다.
그러나 그러한 방법상의 문제는 인문학의 수사적 기능을 어떻게 조율하는 데에 달려 있다고 생각된다. 그러한 조율은 교정학이 여러 인문학의 학제적 접근을 통해 실천 없는 이론화의 현상을 막게 해 줄 것이다.
