The purpose of this study was to examine the caregiving experiences for the rural elderly men who took care of their spouses of stroke patients. Qualitative research through the in-depth interviews was applied, and the data was analyzed by the procedures of Strauss and Corbin’s grounded theory method. The “seeking happiness of the elderly men thru recollecting their
honeymoon season while caring for sick wives in the rural supporting system” was identified as a key category that emerge from text. The major findings for the experiences were discussed
in the context of developing welfare services for the elderly caregivers who reside in rural area.

본 연구의 목적은 농촌지역에서 뇌졸중 환자인 부인을 돌보는 남성노인의 케어경험을 구조적, 시간적인 맥락에서 살펴보고, 이들의 경험의 의미 및 본질을 파악함으로써 남성노인들의 경험을 보다 더 깊이 있게 이해하고자 한 것이었다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 Strauss와 Corbin(1997)이 제시한 근거이론방법에 따라 개방코딩, 축코딩, 선택코딩에 따라 분석하였다. 뇌졸중 배우자를 돌보는 남성노인이 경험하는 “농촌지역사회 지지체계를 기반으로 부인과의 백년가약을 생각하며 행복 찾기”의 과정이 이해되었고, 이러한 결과 뇌졸중 배우자를 돌보는 남성노인의 삶이 경제적, 신체적, 심리적, 사회적 요인에 적응하는 행위라고 여겨질 수 있으며, 이러한 경험의 본질을 사회복지와의 관련성속에서 논의하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다양한 환경에 따라 사회복지서비스개발과 정책적 대안을 마련하는 데 기초 자료를 제공했다는 의의를 지닌다.
