The purposes of this research were to find out general trends of value orientations of family among elderly women and to investigate the differences according to related variables. The data
were obtained through 231 women over 60 years old residing in Kwangju. The traditional trends of old women's value orientations were outstanding except sex-role orientations. The value orientations were different according to socioeconomic status especially in area of orientations of children's support for parent, but value orientations of familism was relatively preserved among elderly women. Also value orientations of family differed significantly according to physical health, self-esteems, satisfaction level of family life and family support. Healthy and self-respected women presented more modernized orientations and the high level of family life satisfaction and family support were related traditional value orientations.

본 연구는 남성에 비하여 상대적으로 노년기가 길고 최근 들어 다양한 측면에서 그 변화가 두드러지고 있다는 점에서 여성노인을 대상으로 그들이 인지하는 가족가치관의 일반적 경향 및 그 차이를 파악해보고 또 가치관의 차이를 발생시키는 관련된 요인을 검토하여 가족가치관의 전반적인 흐름을 알아보고자 한 것이었다. 이를 위하여 231명의 여성노인을 대상으로 가족가치관을 영역별로 조사․ 분석했다. 그 결과 전체적으로 노년기 여성의 가족가치관은 아직 전통적 수준에 머물고 있었지만, 성 역할에 관한 가치관은 다른 영역에 비하여 근대화 경향으로 진행하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 또한 전체적으로 노인부양의 가치관에서 사회인구학적 변인의 차이가 가장 두드러지게 났는데, 이는 가족가치관 중에서 노인부양 문제가 가장 다양하게 논의거리가 됨을 의미한다. 한편 가족주의 가치관의 경우 어느 집단이나 공통적으로 굳건하게 지지되고 있음을 알 수 있다.
또한 전반적으로 건강한 집단에서 가장 근대적인 가치관을 나타내고 있었으며, 자아존중감이 높은 집단의 가치관이 낮은 집단보다 더근대적이어서 아들이나 장남에 대한 부양기대가 높지 않음을 알 수 있다. 그리고 가정생활만족도 또는 가족지지가 높은 집단의 가치관이 보다 더 전통적인 것으로 나타났다.
