This paper discusses about the academic status of "Gyo-kwa-gyo-yuk-hak," the studies
on the curriculum and instruction of individual school subjects, in the relation of background academic disciplines, academic traditions, educational philosophies, and the achievements in research. Further, this paper clarify how the conceptions of "Gyo-kwa-gyo-yuk-hak" could give influences on the teacher education system. Based on the discussions, this paper argues that each individual area of "Gyo-kwa-gyo-yuk-hak" has its own logic of human developments and approaches that cannot be reduced to a single general educational discipline. Next, this paper classifies the traditions of "Gyo-kwa-gyo-yuk-hak" into "Fach Didaktik" originated from Germany,
"Gyo-kwa-gyo-yuk-hak" from Korea and Japan, and "Curriculum and Instruction" from the
United States. Finally, this paper point out the intellectual barriers that interfere the academic development of the studies on "Gyo-kwa-gyo-yuk-hak."

본 논문은 교과교육학의 위상 및 학문적 성격을 배경학문과의 관계, 일반 교육학과의 관계, 학문적 전통, 인간형성 논리 및 연구성과의 축적 등과 관련하여 논의하였다. 나아가 교과교육학의 위상 및 성격이 교원양성체제에 어떻게 영향을 미칠 수 있는지에 대해 논의하였다. 이를 바탕으로 각 교과교육학은 일반 교육학 또는 교과교육학 개론 등에 환원시킬 수 없는 독자적 영역과 인간형성논리를 구축하고 있으나, 연구성과의 미비 등으로 전문 과학의 내용을 인간형성논리에 맞게 재구성한 수준에는 이르지 못하고 있음을 지적하였다. 한편 교과교육의 발달단계 및 전통에 따라 교과교육학을 각과교수학, 교과교육학, 교육과정 및 교수법 등으로 구분할 수 있으며, 각각의 전통에 따라 교원양성체제가 달라질 수 있음을 논의하였다. 이러한 논의들을 바탕으로 교과교육학의 발전을 가로막는 지적 장애요소를 지적하였다.
