This study is aimed to reinterpret 'YuGyoGuShinRon (儒敎求新論: an Thought for reform of/by Confucianism)’ of BaekAm(白巖) Park Eun-Sik (朴殷植 1859-1925), a Korean modern Confucian scholar and nationalist/statesman, in the aspect of searching an alternative democracy of global age. Here in this study, ‘YuGyoGuShinRon’ is named by me for one of his ideological characters
getting an idea from ｢YuGyoGuShinRon (儒敎求新論)｣ written by him. In this study, I claim: 1) He tried to reform also Korean Confucianism for his time based on the original spirit of Confucianism; and 2) in addition, he thought that the modernization or modern-civilization of Korean society also should be reorganized through succession and propagation of the general value of original Confucianism. In conclusion, furthermore, I reassess his declaration in the
viewpoint: 3) therefore, his confident prediction, ‘Confucian value will lead global civilization someday’, is a correct declaration in the point that the east Asian civil area today faces the necessity of meeting the tradition of Confucianism at least for a strategy to cope with the globalization tendency.

이 논문의 목적은 한국의 근대 유학자이자 민족운동가/정치가였던 백암(白巖) 박은식(朴殷植 1859-1925)의 ‘유교구신론(儒敎求新論)’에 대해 세계화시대 대안적 민주주의를 모색하는 차원에서 재해석하는 것이다. 여기서 ‘유교구신론’이라 함은 필자가 백암의 저술 ｢유교구신론(儒敎求新論)｣에 착안하여 그의 사상적 특징의 하나를 명명한 것이다. 이 논문에서 주장하는 필자의 논의는 백암이 1) 당시 한국 유교도 유교 본래의 정신 및 근대 민주주의의 긍정적인 가치에 알맞게 혁신할 것을 주장하였다는 점뿐만 아니라, 2) 한국 사회의 근대화 혹은 근대문명 또한 본원적 유교의 보편적 가치의 계승 및 보급을 통해 재구성되어야 한다고 보았다는 것을 강조하였다. 아울러 결론에서는 3) 그렇기 때문에 ‘언젠가 반드시 유교적 가치가 세계문명을 선도하리라’고 확신했던 그의 예언은, 적어도 오늘날의 동아시아 문명권의 경우, 세계화 현상에 대응하는 전략의 하나를 위해서라도 유교전통과 만나야 할 필요성에 직면해다는 점
에서 정확한 선언이었다는 관점에서 재평가하였다.
