Now a days local characteristic culture is becoming an attractive sightseeing target and generates an uniqueness. So recent tourists show an interest in characteristic culture. Among other things, an interest about a traditional food is high.
This study aims to describe the forms and characteristics of Chuncheon's MakGukSoo festival, and analyzing on characteristics about tourists who took part in the MakGukSoo festival. The MakGukSoo festival has an enough fascination and drags tourists. The reason is because the MakGukSoo festival combines with a beautiful natural environment and culture. With holding a festival, a cognition about Chuncheon increases and it results in a sightseeing income. Besides, it is contributing to area revival.
Then what is it that the MakGukSoo festival develops? As a result of having studied the festival, An area resident was participating mainly in a festival and one day trip was most stay duration. Nationwide cognition of a festival was a still low level. In order to develop a festival, managers should constantly supplement festival contents, improve an operation method. And the festival must provide a show and food to tourists also. If the festival will have an element to drag an interest, The area festival will be a nationwide festival and the image of Chuncheon will be good.

최근 한국의 지역사회에서는 지역전통과 문화적 자산 등이 재발견되고 자원화됨으로써 이를 지역 축제로 활성화시키려는 노력들이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 이러한 배경에서 본 연구는 향토 음식을 축제의 주제로 부각시켜 대표적인 지역축제로 자리잡아 가고 있는 춘천 막국수 축제에 대해 고찰하였다. 올해로 8회째를 맞는 춘천막국수 축제를 사례로 향토음식의 관광적 가치와 전국의 향토음식 축제 현황을 알아보고, 춘천막국수 축제의 실태를 파악하기 위해 축제에 참가한 관광객의 인구 통계적 특성과 행태적 특성을 알아보았다.
춘천막국수 축제는 전국에서 몇 안 되는 향토음식 축제로서 축제의 소재가 특이하여 외지 참가자들의 흥미와 관심을 끌어내는데 충분한 매력요인을 가지고 있다. 더욱이 춘천이라는 지역의 자연환경과 문화적 유산, 특산물이 이상적으로 결합해 독특한 지역적 정서를 창출해 나갈 수 있는 조건을 가지고 있다. 그러나 이와 같은 좋은 축제 여건에도 불구하고 춘천막국수 축제의 실태는 아직 전국적인 수준에까지 이르지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 이는 춘천막국수 축제에 참가한 관광객의 대부분(65%)이 강원도 지역민이라는 설문조사에서 알 수 있다. 춘천막국수 축제가 진정한 향토음식 축제로 자리매김하기 위해서는 축제를 주관하고 운영하고 주체들이 끊임없이 축제 내용을 보완하고 운영방법을 개선해 문화축제로서의 매력도를 높여가야 할 것이다. 또 외지 참가자들의 흥미와 관심을 끌어내는 다양한 체험요소와 먹거리 · 볼거리를 개발하여 지역축제를 전국화하려는 노력도 절실하다고 하겠다.
