This paper considers how reading mythology can become a means of restoration of humanity in the digital age. Today, as man continuously and relentlessly destroys the earth, we hear the
groaning of the "Earth, first of the gods."
Greek mythology gives us the perspective to see what our beginnings were like, where we are now and what the final destiny of our world will be like. We are reminded of that Hephaestos, the
smith god, could not be victorious until his marriage with Aphrodite is fulfilled. This marriage was only possible with the help of Dionysus. Aphrodite represents natural beauty; Hephaestos, metal
working and craft today we might say manufacturing and technology. In Ancient Greece, Dionysus, together with Aphrodite, represented the earth's life force. What was true of Daidalos or
Hephaestos in Greek mythology, is also true of the modern technocrats who run our world.

신 인문학의 시대의 도래가 절실히 요청되는 21기에 들어선 오늘날 신화 읽기의 의의는 실로 크게 부각되고 있다. 신화는 자신들에게 알려지지 않은 세계를 항해 할 때 고대 그리스 인들의 귀중한 정보와 길잡이 역할을 담당했다. 오늘의 우리에게 무엇보다 필요한 것은 과학적 지식과 논리적 사고 못지않게 신화적 상상력이라 하겠다.
야스퍼 그리핀( Jasper Griffin)의 지적대로 금세기까지 “신화”는 실질적으로 “그리스 신화”를 의미했다.***3)본 논문은 오늘날 극도로 발달한 과학기술과 문명이 지배하고 있는 디지털 시대의 세계속에서 파괴되고 병들어가는 자연과 인간성을 구출하기 위한 하나의 전략으로서(그리스) 신화읽기를 시도하며, 무엇보다 절실하게 요구되고 있는 궁극적인 처방으로서 “디오뉘소스 살리기”에 주목하고자 한다.
