A Study on the Role of the Graduate School of Education Based on Lifelong Education The higher education organizations are confronted with the crisis of change. It is demanded to redefine the basic roles of universities which are research, education and service. That is directly applied to the Graduate School of Education as is the case of other higher education agencies. In another words, it is necessary to change the role of GSE from the recurrent agency for incumbent teachers to the lifelong education center for education experts who work in the various education fields. This study aims to broaden the points of view that the GSE takes charge of the function not only as the lifelong education field but also as the community-friendly social capital. For this, a simple GSE case is introduced, which is the GSE in Seoul carries out the region-friendly program for the weak in her community. After all, the GSE plays an important role in setting up the educational capital near the community as the lifelong education center, and by doing so, the GSE could do its best as the erudition clinic ultimately.

연구, 교육, 봉사로 대표되는 고등교육기관의 기능에 대해 재해석이 요구되고 있다. 그동안 교수자로 대표되는 공급자 중심의 관점에서 학습자에게 초점을 맞춘 수요자 중심으로의 인식 변화가 진행되고 있는 것이다. 이는 고등교육기관의 하나인 교육대학원에게도 그대로 적용되고 있다. 말하자면, 기존 교육대학원이 현직교사의 재교육 기관이라는 단순한 사회봉사기관으로부터 다양한 교육현장의 전문가들로 하여금 각자의 필요와 요구에 맞춰 새로운 지식을 창출하고 이를 전달, 보급, 확대, 적용할 수 있도록 도와주는 평생교육기관으로 변화할 것을 요구하는 것이다. 이 연구는 교육대학원이 평생교육의 장으로서의 기능을 담당하는 것을 넘어서서 지역사회 친화적인 사회자본 으로서 교육자본의 역할을 수행할 수 있도록 인식을 확대하고 제도를 개선하는데 기여하고자 하였다. 이를 위해, 서울 소재 교육대학원에서 주체적으로 진행하고 있는 취약계층을 위한 지역친화 프로그램의 사례를 간략히 소개함으로써, 교육대학원이 지속적으로 평생교육 프로그램을 개발하고 실행할 수 있는 평생교육센터로서의 역할과 그 발전 가능성을 제시하는 동시에, 궁극적으로 교육대학원이 지역사회 친화적 배움 클리닉으로서의 교육 자본으로서 역할을 다할 수 있기를 기대한다.
