환몽구조의 당 전기소설과 朝鮮朝의 夢遊錄은 모두 꿈 모티프로 현실생활 가운데서 인간관계와 사회모순, 그리고 사대부들의 의식형태를 반영하고 있다. 조선조의 몽유록은 작가의식이나 유·불·도사상과 서사적 구조면에서 모두 당 전기소설의 영향을 적지 않게 받았다.
조선조 사대부들의 의식이나 그들의 작품에서 유교사상이 주류를 이루고 있고 佛·道경향은 당 전기소설보다 미약하다. 당 전기소설에서는 儒·佛·道사상이 혼합되어 있는 것이 특징적이다. 이것은 그때의 사회상황과도 연관되어 있다.
몽유록과 당 전기소설은 특히 서사적 구조면에서 相似点도 많지만 相異点도 적지 않다는데 주목할 필요가 있다. 환몽구조의 당 전기소설과 朝鮮朝의 夢遊錄은 작품의 도입부와 결말부에서 史傳式을 도입한 점이 상당히 비슷하다.
당나라 때는 詩와 史가 正統文學이었기 때문에 傳奇小說도 史傳式 구성방식을 취하고 있다. 조선조 사대부들은 虛構를 지극히 싫어했으나 史傳式은 그들의 口味에 맞았을 것이다.
그러므로 이를 적극 취용하여 몽유록을 창작했을 것이다.
사건전개과정에서 相似點도 많지만 相異點도 적지 않다. 그 중 相異點을 예를 들면 몽유록은 입몽, 시연, 토론, 각몽의 고정된 액자틀로 되어 있기 때문에 스토리가 당 전기소설에 비하여 상대적으로 간단하고 평면적이지만 당 전기소설은 비교적 복잡하고 굴곡적인 구조로 되어 있다. 이것은 두 민족의 관습과도 연관되어 있다.
본고에서 申光漢의<安憑夢遊錄>, 沈義의 <大觀齊夢遊錄>과 李公佐의 <南柯太守記>, 沈旣濟의 <枕中記> 이 네 작품으로 비교연구를 하였다. 주로 縱·橫의 비교방법으로 구체적인 작가, 작품, 시대배경에 천착하여 비교하였다.
