As we start to pay as much attention to the quality of education as to efficiency of education nowadays, curriculum leadership of principals has become important. This is because it is essential that principals should exert their curriculum leadership to make their schools focused on curriculum. Principals' curriculum leadership affects planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of school-based curriculum.
Therefore, this research is intended to examine the role of principals in terms of curriculum-focused school operation, and to explore the elements of curriculum leadership based on curriculum organization and operation procedures. According to this, it is suggested that principals' curriculum leadership is required in organizing and operating curriculum at every stage to run schools effectively.

효과적인 교육만큼이나 양질의 교육에 관심이 옮겨지면서 학교장의 교육과정 리더십이 중요해졌다. 교육과정 중심의 학교 운영을 하고자 하는 데 학교장의 교육과정 리더십 발휘가 중요하기 때문이다. 학교장의 교육과정 리더십은 학교교육과정이 계획, 개발, 실행, 평가되는 과정에 영향을 미친다.
따라서 본 연구는 교육과정 중심의 학교 운영에 있어 학교장의 역할을 살펴보고, 교육과정 편성ㆍ운영 절차에 따른 교육과정 리더십 구성 요소를 탐색해 보았다. 이를 통해 양질의 학교 운영을 위해 교육과정 편성ㆍ운영 각 단계별로 학교장의 교육과정 리더십이 요구되어진다는 시사점을 제시한다.
