Recently, the discussion on the multicultural society and multiculturalism has been developed very actively due to the increase of the number of migrant workers in Korean society. As
a pastor who serves migrant workers and a scholar of Christian education, I hope that the multicultural discourse will be a chance to provide the framework for a new social structure and
an new environment for both Korean people and the migrating people. Among many issues on the multiculturalism, I wrote this article focussed on the female immigrants and their situations.
The character of multi–culture in this society will be settled down when the various cultural subjects allow one another their co–subjectivities. The reason why I want to raise the issues on
female immigrants’real life situation is that there is a possibility to ignore their problems as a secondary thing because of their social status and gender particularity while other issues on
migrant workers and multicultural society are exposed in many ways.
The discourse of the female immigrants is one of the major issues related to multicultural study which conveys social, economic, psychological, and cultural issues. Their situation is the place in which all kinds of social problems and limitations have been exposed. In an industrialized and patriarchal society, they are hurt as foreigners and women. They are struggling with instability, tension, and anxiety derived from discrimination, illegal status, and cultural difference. We need to support them adopting a comprehensive and integrated approach that |encompasses not only the legal but also the social, cultural, psychological, and educational aspects. Especially, Christian education has to try listen their voices and to offer ways them to hold their vision and strength as they seek to be welcomed.
Through this article, I introduced the reality of female migrant workers and brides who confront to many kinds of difficulties living in multiple crises and analyzed their problems. In order to
response from the perspective of Christian education toward the current social change caused by feminized immigration, I insisted the ongoing discussion on multicultural curriculum of hristian education and the co–working relationship between social system and faith community that can heal not only their social realities but also their psychological anxiety, fear, identity crisis, and low self–esteem of female immigrants. In addition, I introduced the case of the“ Multicultural Church”in which I am serving as senior pastor.

최근 한국사회의 변화 가운데 이주민의 증가로 인한 다문화 사회에 대한 논의가 증가하고 있음을 볼 수 있다. 이 글은 현 단계 한국사회의 여성 이주민의 증가는 괄목할 만큼 증가추세에 있는 데 반하여 이에 대한 연구는 다문화 사회에 대한 논의 가운데에서도 시작단계에 있기에 이러한 논의를 더욱 확산시키고 또 이미 교회 안에, 교회 밖에 존재하고 있는 이들에 대한 기독교교육적 응답의 측면에서 연구의 필요성을 인식하고 쓴 글이다.
이주민들을 받아들이고 사회 구성원으로 인정하며 공존의 틀과 문화를 형성해감에 있어 이주민의 노동권, 인권, 생존권의 문제가 산적한 가운데, 필자가 여성 이주민의 삶의 자리를 부각시키고 문제제기를 하려는 것은 계층적으로 낮은 위치에 있으며 성적으로 약자의 위치에 있는 여성 이주민의 문제가 다문화 사회와 이주민에 대한 연구와 지원에 있어 2차적이며 부수적인 차원으로 유보될 가능성을 보기 때문이다.
본문을 통해 필자는 여성 이주민을 크게‘이주 여성 노동자’와‘여성결혼이민자’로 나누고 이들에 대한 현실을 이해하고자 하는 부분에 글의 상당부분을 할애하였다. 여성 이주민의 문제는 우리 사회의 여성에 관한 인식과 이주민에 대한 사회와 문화, 제도가 가지는 이들에 대한 시각과 그 현 실태를 드러내고 있는 부분이라는 판단에서이다. 따라서 이들을 바라보는 시각이나 여성 이주민 문제에 대한 사회의 공동적 노력이 다차원에서 일어나야 함을 강조하는 바이며 이에 대한 기독교교육적 돌봄과 응답을 시도해 보고자 하였다. 기독교교육적 응답이라고 할 때에 다문화 사회의 흐름을 어떻게 기독교교육이 바라보
고 대응해야 할 것인가에 대한 일반론적인 응답과 여성 이주민에 대한 특성을 기반으로 하는 기독교교육적 돌봄, 혹은 대안을 제시하여 보았다.
