Studies on ethnic minority women in terms of well-being are limited. Overcoming the feminist approach, this study explores the socioeconomic factors that have had tremendous influence on the psychosocial well-being of Korean-American women who live in Kansas City metropolitan area. The Korean-American women in this study live in a stressful and difficult situation regarding financial hardship, the multiple roles they must play in family, and mental health because they are frequently caught in between two different cultures with unfamiliar language and customs. Through intensive interviews of Korean women in a snowball sample in Kansas City metropolitan area, this study found a number of socioeconomic factors that contribute negatively to their well-being:low level and uncertainty of income, deterioration in marital satisfaction, estrangement in parent/child relationship, and limited choice in the process of social networking. Many Korean women in the area mentioned above are suffering from one or more psychological disturbances, and their overall state of psychosocial well-being is in adverse although their motivation of immigration and socioeconomic status are diverse.
