Urbanization is one of very important key word to symbolize the modern society, actually the irresistible current of times. From all parts of the world, speed of urbanization is more fast than other past period, even the rural people are under the influence of urbanization. In ministry, urbanization exert an absolute effect, because the object of ministry is not God but people who have the great correlation with urbanization. Therefore pastor have to study and understand the urban society and urbanites who are living in city, and also satisfy their needs.
First, this study sought theologically for urban society. Second, I studied the characteristics and problems of urban communities to demonstrate necessity and justifiability of urban spiritual ministry. Third, I studied necessity of christian spirituality in this urban condition. In conclusion, I showed strategies of urban ministry to develop spirituality. The spiritual ministry for whole person is an ministry which put the emphasis on relationship and so the visible result is secondary. God loves the urban communities that many souls gather to be redeemed and God also want to rescue them through the urban church, body of Jesus Christ. World evangelization is ultimately urban evangeliztion.

도시화(urbanization)는 현대사회의 특징을 나타내는 가장 중요한 키워드(key word) 중 하나이며, 현실적으로 거역할 수 없는 시대조류(時代潮流)이다. 세계적으로 그 어느 때보다 도시화 현상은 빠르게 진행되고 있으며, 시골에 사는 사람들도 이미 도시화의 영향을 받고 있다. 그리고 목회에 있어서도 절대적인 영향을 미치고 있는데, 그 이유는 목회의 대상은 하나님이 아니라 직간접적으로 도시화의 영향을 받고 있는 사람들이기 때문이다. 그러므로 목회자는 도시사회와 그 속에서 생활하는 도시인들을 정확하게 이해할 필요가 있으며, 그들의 필요를 채워줄 수 있어야 한다.
본 연구는 먼저 도시에 대해 신학적으로 고찰하고, 둘째로 도시사회에서의 영성목회의 당위성을 논증하기 위해 도시사회의 특성과 문제점을 살펴보았다. 셋째로는 이러한 도시 상황에서 기독교 영성의 필요성에 대해 연구했으며, 마지막으로는 영성개발을 위한 도시목회의 전략을 제시했다. 전인적 영성목회는 목회의 가시적 결과보다는 관계성을 추구하는 목회이다. 하나님은 구원받을 영혼이 많이 모인 도시를 사랑하시고, 예수님의 몸인 도시교회를 통해 구원하시기를 원하신다. 결국 세계복음화는 도시의 복음화인 것이다.
