This study investigated the relation between television news broadcast exemplar types and the ease of retrieving examples from one’s memory. Eighty-two university students watched four types of television broadcast news (“murder”, “school violence”, “martial affair”, and “love/dating”) and were asked to retrieve related examples from one’s memory. The study found that people often recall examples that were often shown in the broadcast news. However, television viewing and recalling of examples were not highly related.
