The present study compared the blood glucose concentrations measured in the capillary blood sampled from the alternative(forearm) site with the standard venous or finger sampling techniques. Capillary blood was sampled from the left index finger and the forearm followed by venous blood sampling in 531 patients visiting the C University Hospital. Blood glucose test was performed for each blood samples. Statistical analyses were made by linear regression. The correlation coefficients of the measured blood glucose levels between finger and vein and between forearm and vein were 0.94 and 0.92, respectively (P<0.001). The forearm measurement also well correlated with the finger with a correlation coefficient of 0.94, and both data were very much close to each other. Therefore, the blood sugar test on the alternative capillary blood sampling site such as forearm could keep clinical validity. The vacuum assisted auto-lancing technique on the alternative site would be of particular interest for the chronic diabetes, since it induces almost no pain with enough accuracy.

통증이 거의 없는 새로운 모세혈액 채혈기법인 진공자동채혈법(vacuum assisted auto lancing)의 임상적 응용 가능성을 평가하고자 대체부위(팔)에서 채혈하여 측정한 혈당값을 표준 채혈부위인 정맥 및 손가락에서 채혈하여 측정한 혈당값과 비교, 분석하는 연구를 수행하였다. C대학병원을 내원한 531명의 환자를 대상으로 왼손 집게손가락 끝과 왼쪽 팔의 후 전완부위에서 말초혈액의 혈당을 측정하였고, 곧바로 정맥 채혈하여 혈당을 측정하였다. 손가락 끝에서 채혈한 혈당값과 정맥채혈의 혈당값 간의 상관계수는 0.94, 전완부위에서 측정한 혈당값과 정맥혈당값 간의 상관계수는 0.92로 유의한 상관관계를 보였다(P<0.0001). 또한 전완부위 채혈과 손가락 채혈 간의 상관계수는 0.94이었으며, 두 측정값이 매우 근사하였다. 따라서 팔과 같은 대체부위에서 자가 혈당검사를 수행하는 것이 임상적으로 유용함을 실험적으로 입증하였다. 대체부위에서 진공자동채혈하면 통증이 거의 없으므로 만성 당뇨환자들의 자가관리를 위해 매우 유용하리라 기대된다.
