An Improvement Method of Teachers' Job Training to Activate Creative Discretion Activities

The purpose of this study was to structure basic materials regarding problems of current teachers' job training programs and to identify the direction of the future program in order to activate the creative discretion activities. For this purpose, the current teachers' training program of Incheon Metro City was analyzed to understand the operational status. To investigate the direction of teachers' job training program to identify the operational problems and activate creative discretion activities, self-made questionnaires were distributed to 200 teachers in Incheon city. In the development of creative discretion classes they answered that the composition of educational courses was the most difficult and they recognized the insufficient support for discretion activities should be the biggest obstacle for the teachers to perform their autonomy. To improve creative discretion activities, they prioritized 'Development and distribution of various programs' as the first and 'Enough job training on discretion activity curriculum' as the second. 91.9% teachers answered the job training for creative discretion activities would be needed and 83.8% hoped to participate in the training. 70.5% teachers wanted program oriented training and 67.1% teachers answered that the joint training with National Youth Center of Korea would be desirable. When they got job training, they wanted to learn 'Cultural Emotion Activities' and 'Service Cooperative Activities' of National Youth Center of Korea. To activate discretion activities, diversified programs should be distributed and job training for teachers should be activated. Job training for creative discretion should be included in training programs hosted by Office of Education and the training content should include various programs focusing on personality education. In particular, it would be desirable to train jointly with Youth Centers.
