The purpose of this study is to review the general guidelines in commercial high school curriculum and present the improvement of commercial high school curriculum. The general guidelines in commercial high school curriculum was reviewed by the following point of view.
First, are individual needs considered in developing the commercial high school curriculum?
Second, are the national and social needs considered in developing the commercial high school curriculum?
Third, are the needs of vocational world considered in developing the commercial high school curriculum?
Fourth, are the recent trends of academic world considered in developing the commercial high school curriculum?
Fifth, is the organization of subjects appropriate to the purpose of commercial high school curriculum?
The results of review were showed appropriate in general. The commercial high school students' needs of entering a profession and a school of higher grade were considered in the general guidelines of commercial high school curriculum. The basic vocational competence was emphasized in the character and goal of business education. The number of subjects that are integrated is 4, the number of subjects that the name are changed is 8. And the number of subjects that are transferred to other department is 7, the number of subjects that are established newly is 11.
The total number of subjects in the table of organization is 32. The organization of subjects was evaluated in appropriate. But there are no evidences that contents was reduced and the recent trends of academic world were considered.

이 연구는 교육인적자원부가 2007년 2월 고시 예정으로 교육부가 마련 중인 실업계 고등학교(상업계열) 교육과정 개정 시안을 검토하여 개선 방향을 제시하기 위한 것이다. 실업계 고등학교(상업계열) 교육과정 총론 시안의 주요 내용을 다음의 5가지 검토 관점 하에 검토하였다.
첫째, 교육과정 개정 시안의 각 요소가 개인의 요구를 반영하고 있는가?
둘째, 교육과정 개정 시안의 각 요소가 국가․사회의 요구를 반영하고 있는가?
셋째, 교육과정 개정 시안의 각 요소가 직업세계의 요구를 반영하고 있는가?
넷째, 교육과정 개정 시안의 각 요소가 학문세계의 최근 동향을 반영하고 있는가?
다섯째, 과목 편제가 상업계 고등학교의 교육 목적을 달성하는데 적합한가?
검토 결과는 대체로 적절한 것으로 나타났다. 취업과 진학의 요구를 동시에 갖고 있는 상업계열 고등학교 학생들의 요구가 교육과정 개정 시안에 반영되었으며, 직업세계에서 강조되고 있는 직업기초능력의 신장을 강조하는 내용이 상업계열 고등학교 교육의 성격과 목표, 학과별 목표 진술 부분에 포함되어 있는 것으로 나타났다. 현행 교육과정의 과목들 중 통합된 과목은 4개, 과목 명칭이 변경된 과목은 8개, 폐지된 과목은 1개, 타 계열로 이관된 과목은 7개, 신설된 과목은 11개이며, 총 과목 수는 현행과 같이 32개 과목으로 편제되었는데, 과목 편제는 대체로 적절한 것으로 평가되었다. 그러나 주5일제 수업의 시
행에 대비한 수업량의 축소나 최근의 학문세계의 동향을 반영하였다는 증거는 찾기 어려웠다.
