His accommodation of the Lotus Sutra is come down from his teachers. Considering the work of Buyong and Byeoksong who he regarded them each father and grandfather when it comes to his Buddhism, we could think that these two teachers might have practiced Zen through a Buddhist sermon and also they might have educated Saint Seosan, Huejeong this sermon. It means
that his Buddhist belief would have been affected by them more or less. His Buddha sermon can be defined as the teaching text of Buddha which opens the way to truth. He had educated all of the Lotus Sutra to from Sunginjangro, his teacher of a Buddhist monk, Byeoksongjieom, the
adviser of Buddhist sermon, Buyongyeonggwan, the messenger of Buddhist law and his student, Saint Samyeong. The Buddhist belief uses So(notes) which publishes the Lotus Sutra and it recited the Lotus Sutra at the Cheondoeuisik of various Buddhism ceremonies(The ceremony which prays to make the death pass away peacefully). His belief for a Buddhist saint also came from the memorial service of it. Especially spiritual ceremony(Ceremony which welcomes the spirit) of the supplement of Cheongeojip(淸虛集) was accomplished with three treasures (Buddha, Dharma, Saṃgha) which explain the Lotus Sutra. Otherwise, he explains the theory of Zen in various fields comparing to the Lotus Sutra so he harmonizes the Lotus Sutra with Zen.

휴정의 법화경 수용은 그의 스승으로부터 전해진 것이었다. 전법의 스승이었던 부용영관과 법조였던 벽송지엄의 행적에서 법화경을 수용하여 교화한 것을 보여준다. 이들 두 스승이 법화경을 인용하여 禪法門을 폈고, 이를 서산대사 휴정에게 교화함에 따라 휴정의 법화신행에 적지 않은 영향을 끼쳤을 것이다. 그 법화사상은 방편을 열어 진리에 들어가는 일불승 법문이었다고 할 수 있다. 휴정은 捨敎入禪의 禪法을 폈으나, 법화신행의 일면도 보여준다. 그는 법화경을 간행하는 疏를 쓰고 있고, 각종 경찬 법
석 불교의식, 그리고 천도의식에서 법화경을 독송하였다. 또 그의 사리신앙도 법화경 사리공양에서 나온 것이었다. 특히 『청허집』부록의 영혼을 맞이하는 의식인 영혼식에는 법화경에서 설하는 삼보가 모셔져 신행되었다. 그밖에 여러 전적에서 법화경의 비유를 들어 禪의 이치를 설명하고 있어 법화경을 禪으로 회통하고 있다. 이로써 서산대사 휴정의 법화신행은 조선 중기 무종파 시대 이렇다 할 법화경의 교학적 발전이 눈에 띄지 않는 가운데서도, 경을 간행하고 법석 불교의식 등으로 신행한 법화신행의 중요한 일면을 보여준다.
