A Critical Analysis of the Contemporary Private House Trends through the Idea of 'Un-Private' - With Particular Reference to the Exhibition 'The Un-Private House', MoMA, New York -

The purpose of this study was to analyze emerging new architectural trends of contemporary private house by examining 'The Un-Private House' exhibition, MoMA, 1999. According to the exhibition, structural elements of private house, such as changes in family structure, shifting concepts of privacy and domesticity, and the home as workplace have created totally new architectural trends and the new relationships between privacy and publicity, un-private. In this
context, this paper suggests interconnection between structural elements and new architectural features of contemporary private house which based on the idea of un-private, and analyzes new architectural trend focused on several points of changes; spatial, planar and material effect changes. In spatial trend, there reveals loft-like space, in the aspect of floor plan, boundless spaces represent the characteristic of ambiguity, and with regard to material, there reveals unboundedness by using glass and carbonate glass in several examples. These several characteristics of architectural trends remark changing and emerging of a new architectural trend of contemporary private house.
