Culture ethics is a branch of ethics. The term of 'culture ethics' is integrates culture and ethics. Culture ethics might be understood very broadly as the effort of ethician to apply ethics theories to issues regarding culture activity. Some people reject that effort. Ethics is considered as a normative science but culture is concerned about empirical sciences. So some people believe there is no ethical culture in various world culture systems. In fact I support the cultural relativism. But I think every society has universal values, a fundamental morality. Golden Rule. Therefore, in the area of culture, we can find global ethical standards. We should not only look at what is conventionally called 'cultures.' Nowadays a global civic culture is evolving. I will call it ethical culture which contains further elements to be incorporated in a new global ethics. In the industrialized nations of the world, the quantity of outcomes is increasing, but the quality of life is decreasing. Many people enjoy a pig's pleasure. We worry about philistinism in culture life. When we look for more concrete definitions of culture or vulgarity, it can be difficult to find definitions. So I try to present the term 'ethical culture.' If we have standards on ethical culture, we can easily discriminate between culture and vulgarity. Human create culture to solve problematic situations. But these times human's cultural life makes culture crisis. Cultural crisis come from immorality. For this reason ethics should be at the heart of cultural life. Many people don't consider culture as moral objet. so I will emphasis on two categories the first thing is about the conservation of life and the second thing is concerned about human's dignity. In this paper, I present only general criteria of ethical culture. From now on we can discuss sub category of life's conservation and human's dignity. I believe that cultural relativism should be transformed into ethical culturism.

본 연구는 윤리적 문화의 기준을 설정하고자 하는 목적에서 이루어졌다. 문화가 윤리적이어야 한다는 주장은 있어 왔으나, 그 기준에 대한 논의는 거의 없었다. 현실적으로 문화상대주의 입장이 사실로 받아들여지는 상황에서 어떤 문화가 윤리적인지를 논의할 수 있는 분위기가 아니었다. 그러나 많은 사람들은 문화의 천박성과 저급화에 대해서 우려를 해왔다. 경제가 성장하게 되면 기존에 누리지 못했던 문화생활을 하게 되지만 윤리의식이 따라주지 못하기 때문에 취향이 저급화되는 것이다. 취향의 저급화는 개인적 생활에 국한되는 것이 아니라 사회문제가 될 수 있다. 따라서 무엇보다도 윤리적인 문화에 대한 논의가 새롭게 확산되기를 바라면서 논의의 출발로 기준을 설정하고자 한 것이다. 본 논문에서는 윤리적 문화의 기준으로 포괄적인 두가지 측면을 제시했다. 하나는 ‘생명의 보전’ 이고 다른 하나는 ‘인간적 품위’이다. 우선 윤리적 문화의 평가 기준은 다양한 문화들이 가지고 있는 보편성이 되어야 할 것으로 봤다. 그 보편성의 출발은 인간이 본질적으로 미완성적이기 때문에 문제상황을 극복하기 위해서 문화를 창조했다는 것이다. 그러므로 문화는 생명의 보전에 기여해야 본래적 의미를 실현하는 것이다. 어떤 문화가 윤리적인지 아닌지는 생명의 보전에 기여하는지 아닌지로 평가가능하다고 본다. 또 하나의 기준은 문화는 사회생활 속에서 창조되는 것이기 때문에 문화생활에서 타인의 정서에 해를 가해서는 안된다고 보고, 품위있는 행위방식인지 아닌지로 문화의 윤리성을 평가할 수 있다는 점을 연역하고자 했다. 문화에 따라 행위양식은 다르다 하더라도 품위는 모든 문화가 가져야할 보편적 가치라고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 기준을 제시하기 위해서 문화의 의미, 문화의 다양성, 상대성, 문화상대주의 윤리상대주의에 대해 고찰하였다. 문화상대주의에서 윤리상대주의가 도출되는 것은 아니라는 논지를 가지고 문화의 윤리성을 언급하는 것이 가능하다고 주장했다. 윤리적 문화의 기준을 모색하지 않은 상황에서 문화창조자와 문화소비자의 윤리성을 논의할 수 없다는 인식 하에 우선 기준을 모색해보고자 한 것이다.
