On account of the influence of 7th curriculum, the field of ethics education is faced with serious crisis. After being an optional subject, students of academic high school turn their faces away from 'ethics'. And students of technical high schools are exempted from studying 'ethics'. As a results of this, many numbers of teaching time and many teaching positions of ethics have gone out of existence. In these situations, it becomes very hard for a graduate of a department of ethics education to get a teaching profession. Amid of this crisis situation, I want to examine the way to overcome this current crisis. To put it concretely, I will roughly retrospect to chase the footprint of ethics education during past thirty years. Next I will prove that the two assumption which stems from inborn yokes of ethics education enforces the crisis structure of it with time. The first assumption is that ethics is interdisciplinary subject. The second assumption is that ethics education is, in essence, political education. In order overcome the current crisis, we must be freed from these two absurd assumptions. And we should make an appealing text for high school students.

도덕․윤리교육계를 지배하는 두 가지 태생적 가정이 있다. 첫 번째는 윤리교육은 정치교육이라는 것이다. 두 번째는 도덕․윤리교과는 학제적 교과라는 것이다. 이 두 가지 가정은 권위주의 정부 시절에 민족주의적이면서 반공주의적 시각에서 만들어진 학과로서의 (국민)윤리(교육)과의 태생적 특성에 뿌리를 두고 있다. 그러나 이 두 가지 가정이 한번도 학문적으로 명쾌하게 증명된 적은 없었다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 이 두 가지 가정이 이제는 도덕․윤리교육계의 미래지향적 발전을 가로막는 두 가지 태생적 멍에가 되고 있다. 도덕․윤리 교육계는 세 번에 걸친 위기 상황을 겪었다. 첫 번째 위기는 대학의 교양필수 과목에서 선택과목으로 바뀐 것이었다. 두 번째 위기는 구소련의 멸망과 냉전의 종식과 함께 찾아왔다. 세 번째 위기는 진행형의 위기로서, 고등학교 교육과정에서 선택과목이 된 것이다. 이 세 번의 위기는 도덕․윤리 교육이 정치교육으로서의 구태를 벗어던지기를 요구하고 있는 것이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 우리는 우리를 욱죄고 있는 두 가지 태생적 질곡으로부터 벗어나지 못하고 있다. 이제 우리는 그 멍에를 벗어던지고 경쟁력 있는 교과서를 만들어서 우리 교과의 존재 이유와 효용가치를 증명 해 보이는 일에 지혜를 모아야 한다.
