In this study I investigated the communicability between traditional moral education and modern moral education. With this purpose, I studied the structure of Yul Gock`s moral education theory. First of all, I categorized five elements of Yulgok`s moral education theory, which are, (1) the problem consciousness of the real, (2) the origins of good and evil, (3) the meaning of good and evil, (4) the ideal type of human being, and (5) the method of moral education leading an immoral man to become the ideal type. After investigating these elements, I suggested that Yulgok`s moral education theory has a structure of recurrence in which a man endowed with Li(理) from Heaven(天) recovers his purely good nature. In the conclusion I asserted the modern meaning of the structure of Yulgok`s moral education theory as having the following three points: First, it shows us that justifiability and the possibility of moral education are as important in modern education as ever. Second, it suggests to us the method for resolving environmental issues because it has a very wide realm of morality from trivial things to the universe itself.

이 연구는 율곡 도덕교육론의 구도를 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 II장에서는 율 곡 도덕교육론을 이루고 있는 요소들을 다섯 가지, 즉 (1)현실에 대한 문제의식, (2)선악의 근원, (3)선악의 의미, (4)이상적 인간의 모습, (5)현실인간을 이상적 인간으로 향하게 하는 방법론으로 설정하여 그 각각의 의미를 탐색하였다. III장에서는 요소들에 대한 탐구를 바탕으로 율곡 도덕교육론의 전체 구도를 인간이 본래 타고난 선한 본성을 회복하여 하늘과 합일하는 것을 의도하고 있다는 점에서 회귀(回歸)의 구도로 규정하였다. IV장에서는 율곡 도덕교육론의 구도가 내포하고 있는 현대적 의미를 다음과 같은 두 측면에서 제시하였다. 첫째, 율곡의 도덕교육론은 도덕교육의 당위성과 가능성 정립의 중요성을 일깨워 준다. 둘째, 도덕의 영역을 인간을 넘어선 영역까지 포함하고 있기 때문에 오늘날 환경윤리교육에 유효한 관점을 제공할 수 있을 것이다.
