he main purpose of the current study was to examine influence of parental television guidance on children’ perceived reality and television viewing. I assumed that children’s perceived reality and viewing would be predicted and explained by an parental television guidance of restrictive, instructive and coviewing. A survey of 348 middle and high school students was conducted. A first research question is to find an influence of parental television guidance on children’ perceived reality of magic window, identity and utility. Only instructive guidance is significant predictor of perceived reality of magic window, identity and utility. A second research question is to examine an influence of parental television guidance on children’ television viewing. The variables of television viewing were defined by attitudes of TV, viewing time and television viewing custom. About the attitude of TV, instructive guidance is significant predictor of prosocial attitude of TV. But instructive guidance and restrictive guidance is predicted of antisocial attitude of TV. Restrictive guidance is found to lead to reduction of television, whereas coviewing guidance increased television viewing time. Finally instructive guidance was significant predicted of planned television viewing custom. Meanings of the results were further discussed and suggestions for future studies were proposed.

이 연구는 부모의 시청지도를 자녀의 현실인식과 시청행태에 영향을 미치는 변인으로 상정하고 그 인과관계를 알아보고자 했다. 이를 위해 중·고등학교 청소년 348명을 대상으로 부모의 시청지도 유형,현실인식,TV에 대한 긍정적 및 부정적 태도, 시청량, 시청습관을 조사하였다. 분석 결과 부모의 시청지도 유형 중 설명적 지도만이 자녀의 현실인식 요인인 요술창문, 동일시, 유용성에 모두 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 부모의 시청 지도 유형 중 대화와 토론을 통한 적극적이면서 고차원적인 설명적 시청지도만이 자녀가 TV를 현실과 동일하게 인식하는 경향을 감소시킬 수 있음을 의미한다. 부모의 시청지도가 자녀의 시청행태에 미치는 영향으로 첫째,부모의 설명적 지도는 자녀의TV에 대한 긍정적 태도를 증가시켰으며,제한적 지도와 설명적 지도는 자녀의TV에 대한 부정적 태도를 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째 자녀의 시청량에 미치는 영향에 대해 부모의 제한적 지도는 자녀의 시청량을 감소시키고,공동시청 지도는 시청량을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째 자녀의 시청습관의 경우 부모의 설명적 지도는 자녀의 계획된 시청습관을 증가시키는 변인으로 드러났다. 이로서 부모의 시청지도는 자녀의 현실인식뿐만 아니라 자녀의TV에 대한 태도 및 시청량, 시청습관까지 영향을 주는 중요한 변인으로 밝혀졌다.
