Discourse analysis and textlinguistics are useful viewpoints and methods for formal or linguistic approaches to literary texts. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the topics and methods of applying discourse/textlinguistic analysis to literary works, focusing on the main concepts and aspects of pragmatics. I surveyed discourse/text studies in literary texts, and discussed seven topics of pragmatics or textlinguistics about literary texts. Negation of presupposition signifies reflection or doubt on existing values and thoughts.Implicature leads readers to positive semantic interpretation. Demonstratives/Pronouns are used to express the viewpoint or attitude of the writer or the narrator on presons and objects.Anaphora, cohesion and coherence are used to consolidate the organic unity and integration of the text.Speech acts are illocutionary acts performed under felicity conditions. In literary texts, felicity conditions are violated intentionally and especially indirect speech acts are used for communicative needs and effects. Cooperative principle of conversation consists of four maxims (quantity, quality, relation, manner). In some cases, however, these maxims are violated for ambiguity, emphasis on conflict, and satire. The main points in discourse/text structure analysis are conversational structure, information flow and rhetorical structure; especially, topic continuity, micro/macro structure, turntaking of speakers and discourse marker.
