This study aimed to examine the relationship between university life adaptation and social support among international students and to verify the relationships between university life adaptation and the sub-factors of social support. A survey was conducted with 264 international students enrolled in universities in Busan, South Korea. The collected data were analyzed using reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis. The results indicated that university life adaptation had a statistically significant positive association with overall social support. Furthermore, significant positive associations were found on all sub-factors of social support, including family support, friend support, professor support, and community support. This study is meaningful in that it empirically confirms the relationship between international students’ adaptation process and their perception of social relationships by establishing university life adaptation as a preceding factor in the formation of social support. The findings are expected to provide foundational data for developing policies to support international students and for designing university-level adaptation support programs.

본 연구는 외국인 유학생을 대상으로 대학생활적응과 사회적 지지 간의 관계를 분석하고, 사회적 지지의 하위요인별 관련성을 검증하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위 해 부산지역 대학에 재학 중인 외국인 유학생 264명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시 하였으며, 신뢰도 분석, 상관관계 분석, 위계적 회귀분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 대학생활 적응은 사회적 지지 전체와 유의한 정적 관련성을 보이는 것으로 나타났으며, 가족지지, 친구지지, 교수지지, 지역사회지지 등 모든 하위요 인에서도 유의한 정적 관련성이 확인되었다. 본 연구는 대학생활 적응과 사회적 지지 형성 간의 관계를 분석함으로써 외국인 유학생의 적응 과정과 사회적 관계 인식 간의 연관성을 실증적으로 확인하였다는 점에서 의의를 가진다. 또한 외국인 유학생 지원 정책과 대학 차원의 적응 지원 프로그램 설계에 기초자료를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
