This study examined differences in suicidal ideation and sleep-related characteristics according to co-residence status with a family member with dementia and identified factors associated with suicidal ideation. Using data from the 2024 Community Health Survey (N = 184,468; weighted N = 30,229,946), complex-sample analyses compared individuals residing with a family member with dementia, individuals not residing with a family member with dementia, and individuals without a family member with dementia. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Suicidal ideation was most prevalent among individuals residing with a family member with dementia, who also exhibited significantly poorer sleep quality. Depression emerged as the strongest predictor of suicidal ideation across all groups. After adjustment, multiple sleep components of PSQI —including sleep disturbance, use of sleep medication, and daytime dysfunction—were independently associated with suicidal ideation. Tailored suicide prevention strategies incorporating sleep assessment may be particularly valuable for individuals residing with a family member with dementia.
