This study, based on Rowe and Kahn’s successful aging model, examined the effect of social trust on life satisfaction among older adults and tested the mediating role of successful aging. Using secondary data from the 2023 National Survey on Older Adults in Korea (N = 9,955), multiple regression and mediation analyses were conducted. Results showed that social trust significantly predicted health management, cognitive and physical function, and social engagement, all of which enhanced life satisfaction. Among these, social engagement demonstrated the strongest mediating effect, as confirmed through bootstrapping. Importantly, the direct impact of social trust on life satisfaction also remained significant. These findings indicate that social trust contributes to life satisfaction both directly and indirectly by promoting successful aging. Policy measures that strengthen social networks, support health, and foster social participation can play a vital role in improving quality of life for older adults.

본 연구는 Rowe와 Kahn의 성공적 노화 모형에 근거하여, 노인의 사회적 신뢰가 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향을 분석하고 이 과정에서 성공적 노화의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 2023년 노인실태 조사 자료를 활용하여 9,955명의 노인을 대상으로 2차 자료분석을 실시하였다. 분석 방법으로는 Baron과 Kenny의 3단계 매개효과 분석과 다중 회귀분석을 사용하였다. 분석 결과, 사회적 신뢰는 질병 및 위험요 인(β=.06, p<.001), 인지 및 신체 기능(β=.04, p<.001), 사회적 참여(β=.08, p<.001) 등 성공적 노화의 주요 요소에 유의미한 영향을 미쳤으며, 이러한 요소들은 삶의 만족도에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 사회적 신뢰가 삶의 만족도에 미치는 직접효과(β=.19, p<.001) 역시 유의하게 유지되었 으며, 부트스트래핑을 통해 사회적 참여가 가장 강력한 매개 효과를 가지는 것으로 확인되었다. 결론적으 로 사회적 신뢰는 성공적 노화를 촉진함으로써 삶의 만족도를 직접적 및 간접적으로 향상시키는 것으로 나타났으며, 노인의 삶의 질 향상을 위해 사회적 관계망 강화, 건강관리 지원, 사회참여 활성화와 같은 정책적 개입이 필요함을 시사한다.
