This study designed the analytical framework of the study by theoretically exploring the safety accidents of postal workers and analyzing the current status of safety accidents, and made policy suggestions for reducing safety accidents of postal workers through a survey targeting postal workers. The results of the study show that, first, safety culture must be spread to reduce unsafe behaviors that cause safety accidents. Second, the postal worker organization, where safety accidents frequently occur, must secure reserve resources to ensure smooth performance of duties. Third, in order to reduce the number of safety accidents among postal workers, it is necessary to strengthen education and training to raise safety awareness. Fourth, a budget must be secured to prevent safety accidents among postal workers. Fifth, two-wheeled vehicles must be replaced with ultra-small electric vehicles to eliminate unsafe conditions.

집배원의 근무 특성상 일과 중 외근업무 비중이 높고, 가가호호 방문을 위한 단거리·단시간의 잦은 승하차로 인한 체력적 부담이 크며, 햇볕, 비, 눈 등 날씨와 교통체증, 도로 위에서 돌발 상황 등 사고 위험에 노출되는 업무환경으로 인해 안전사고가 매년 증가하고 있다. 본 연구는 집배원의 안전사고에 대한 이론적 탐색과 안전사고 현황을 분석하여 연구의 분석틀을 설계하였으며, 집배원을 대상으로 설문 조사를 통해 집배원 안전사고 저감에 대한 정책적 제언을 한다. 연구의 결과, 첫째, 안전사고의 원인인 불안전한 행동을 줄이기 위해 안전문화가 확산되어야 한다. 둘째, 안전사고가 자주 발생하는 집배원 조직에도 예비자원을 확보하여 원활하게 업무를 수행할 수 있어야 한다. 셋째, 집배원의 안전사고를 줄이기 위하여 안전의식을 높이는 교육과 훈련을 강화하는 것이 필요하다. 넷째, 집배원의 안전사고를 예방할 수 있는 예산을 확보해야 한다. 다섯째, 불안전한 상태를 제거하기 위한 이륜차를 대체할 수 있는 초소형 전기차로 대체해야 한다.
