This study analyzed Korean-language abstracts of academic journal articles published through December 2025 using text mining methods to identify research trends on international students at regional universities. The analysis revealed that research on this topic has been increasing annually due to the expansion of international student recruitment following higher education internationalization policies. Research on international students at regional universities was found to be centered on three core axes: Korean language education, cultural adaptation, and policy and support, with "Korean language" playing a central role across all analyses. These characteristics are typical of general international student research, indicating a lack of discussion linked to regional specificities. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct multilayered research on international students at regional universities through analysis of study motivations and university selection factors based on regional uniqueness. In particular, discussions on international student research at regional universities should be developed by connecting domestic students' perceptions of regional university internationalization to community integration and by approaching multicultural education theory.

본 연구는 지역 대학 외국인 대상 연구 동향을 파악하기 위해 2025년 12월까지 학술지 국문 초록을 텍스트 마이닝 방법으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 고등교육 국제화 정책에 따른 유학생 유치 확대로 관련 연구는 매년 증가하는 추세를 보였다. 또 지역 대학 외국인 관련 연구는 한국어 교육, 문화 적응, 정책 및 지원이라는 세 가지 핵심 축을 중심으로 논의되었고 '한국어'가 모든 분석에서 중심적 역할을 하였다. 이는 일반적인 외국인 유학생 연구의 특징으로 지역적 특성과 연계된 논의는 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 지역이라는 특수성에 기반한 유학 동기 및 대학 선택 요인 분석을 통해 지역 대학 외국인 유학생 연구를 다층적으로 수행할 필요가 있다. 특히 국내 학생 관점에서 지역 대학 국제화 인식을 지역 사회 통합으로 연결하고, 다문화 교육 이론에 접근하여 지역 대학 외국인 연구에 대한 논의가 이루어질 필요가 있다.
