This study aims to empirically analyze how prepress PDF errors—specifically color errors, font issues, resolution degradation, and transparency problems—impact the paratextual elements of picture books and how these changes influence readers’ emotional responses, narrative engagement, and visual preferences. Furthermore, the research proposes guidelines to minimize PDF errors in the prepress workflow, ultimately contributing to improving the quality of print production and enhancing reader experience. The research consists of two main components. First, based on international standards(ISO 15930, PDF/X), PDF errors were classified and applied to print samples, and the visual differences between error-free and error-containing versions were quantitatively evaluated using spectrophotometer measurements. Second, comparative A/B tests and surveys were conducted with children and adult readers to assess their perception of color differences, legibility, emotional response, and narrative immersion. The combined analysis of quantitative color data and subjective survey results provided empirical insights into how prepress PDF errors affect the paratextual experience of picture books. This study contributes practical guidelines for designers and print professionals, emphasizing that error management in the prepress stage is essential not only for maintaining technical print quality but also for preserving the reader’s emotional and cognitive engagement. The findings serve as a foundational reference for strengthening quality control standards in the picture book printing and publishing industry.

본 연구는 색상 오류, 폰트 문제, 해상도 저하, 투명도 처리 오류 등 대표적인 프리프 레스 PDF 오류가 그림책의 파라텍스트 요소에 어떠한 변화를 초래하는지를 실증적으 로 분석하고, 이러한 변화가 독자의 감정적 반응, 이야기 몰입도, 시각적 선호도에 어떠 한 영향을 미치는지를 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 나아가 프리프레스 워크플로에서 PDF 오류를 최소화하기 위한 가이드라인을 제안함으로써, 인쇄 제작 품질 향상과 독자 경험 증진에 기여하고자 한다. 연구는 크게 두 가지 구성으로 이루어진다. 첫째, 국제 표준(ISO 15930, PDF/X)을 기반으로 PDF 오류 유형을 분류하고, 이를 인쇄 샘플에 적용한 뒤, 오류가 없는 버전 과 오류가 포함된 버전 간의 시각적 차이를 분광측색계를 이용해 정량적으로 분석하였다. 둘째, 아동과 성인 독자를 대상으로 비교 A/B 테스트 및 설문조사를 실시하여 색 상 차이에 대한 인지, 가독성 평가, 감정적 반응, 이야기 몰입도를 조사하였다. 정량적 색채 데이터와 주관적 설문 결과를 종합적으로 분석함으로써, 프리프레스 PDF 오류가 그림책 파라텍스트 경험에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 도출하였다. 본 연구는 프리프레스 단계에서의 오류 관리가 단순한 기술적 인쇄 품질 유지를 넘어, 독자의 감정적·인지적 몰입을 보존하는 데 필수적임을 강조하며, 디자이너와 인쇄 실무자를 위한 실질적인 가이드라인을 제시한다. 연구 결과는 그림책 인쇄 및 출판 산업에서 품질 관리 기준을 강화하기 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
