BTS, which has achieved unprecedented popularity in the history of global pop culture, has been the subject of extensive research across various fields. However, exploration of the psychological roots of BTS's global popularity has been minimal or limited. Therefore, this study analyzes the ten-year narrative of BTS's music, from their debut in 2013 to their hiatus in 2022, from the perspective of C. G. Jung’s theory of archetypes and the individuation process. This study explores the psychological roots of BTS's global resonance. BTS's music has consistently presented universal human processes, ranging from lack and anger, wandering and frustration, desire and shadow, solidarity and healing, and self-acceptance and integration, within a coherent narrative structure. This paper argues that the continuity and evolution of BTS's narrative structurally corresponds to the Jungian perspective of C. S. Pearson's theory of six archetypes and Jung’s concept of the individuation process, and that this archetype-based nature of BTS's narrative has formed the profound psychological foundation of their global popularity. From Pearson’s perspective, BTS’s 10-year musical career is analyzed as a sequential and spiraling manifestation of the archetypes of the orphan, wanderer, warrior, altruist, innocent, and magician on a journey of inner exploration.

세계 대중문화사에서 유례없는 대중성을 획득한 BTS에 대해 그동안 다양한 분야에서 방대한 연구가 이루어졌다. 그러나 BTS의 세계적 대중성의 심리적 근원 탐색은 미미하거나 한계가 있다. 본 연구는 2013년 데뷔 이후 2022년 그룹 활동 중단에 이르기까지 BTS 음악 10년의 서사를 분석심리학자 칼 구스타프 융(C. G. Jung) 학파의 원형 이론과 개성화 과정의 관점에서 분석해 BTS가 세계적 대중의 공감을 획득한 심리적 근원을 탐색한다. BTS 음악은 결핍과 분노, 방황과 좌절, 욕망과 그림자, 연대와 치유, 자기수용과 통합에 이르는 인간 내면의 보편적 과정을 일관된 서사 구조로 제시해 왔다. 본 논문은 BTS 서사의 지속성과 변화가 융 학 파(Jungian) 캐롤 피어슨(C. S. Pearson)이 제시한 인간 내면의 6원형(six archetypes)론의 관점과 융의 개성화 과정(individuation process)의 개념과 구조적으로 상응하는 BTS 서사의 원형성이 세계적 대중성의 심층적 심리 기반을 형성했다고 주장한다. 피어슨의 관점에서 BTS의 10년 음악 활동은 내면 탐색의 여정에서 고 아, 방랑자, 전사, 이타주의자, 순수주의자, 마법사 원형이 순차적, 나선형적으로 발현하는 것으로 분석된다.
