Although aerial photographic records function as dynamic records whose meanings are reconstructed by citizens, they have received limited attention in archival science despite their high utility. Accordingly, this study aims to examine the process by which aerial photographic records, produced for administrative and military purposes, are transformed from “spatial records” into “place records” through interactions with users. To analyze this transformation of meaning, first, through a literature review, the study established the archival characteristics of aerial photographic records based on theories of space and place. Second, patterns of reconstruction of meaning were analyzed by examining cases of citizen use in administrative and military contexts. Third, through in-depth interviews with planners and researchers, specific utilization values were derived. Finally, the study proposed directions for incorporating the unique characteristics of aerial photographic records into future archival reference services.

항공사진기록은 시민들에 의해 의미가 재구성되는 역동적 기록임에도, 그 높은 활용도에 비해 기록학계에서 크게 주목받지 못했다. 이에 본 연구는 행정⋅군사적 목적으로 생산된 항공사진기록이 이용자와의 상호작용을 통해 ‘공간기록’에서 ‘장소기록’으로 전환되는 과정을 규명하고자 한다. 이를 위해 첫째, 문헌 연구를 통해 항공사진기록의 개념을 고찰하고 공간과 장소 이론을 토대로 그 기록학적 특성을 정립하였다. 둘째, 시민 활용 사례를 행정과 군사 유형으로 나누어 살피고, 이를 통해 항공사진기록의 의미가 재구성되는 양상을 분석하였다. 셋째, 심층 인터뷰를 통해 기획자, 연구자 등 다양한 분야 이용자들의 항공사진기록 활용 경험을 분석하고, 행정 및 군사 유형에 따른 구체적 활용 가치를 도출하였다. 마지막으로, 이러한 분석을 토대로 향후 기록정보서비스에 항공사진기록의 특성을 보다 적절하게 반영하기 위한 방향을 제안하였다.
