Gert Johannes Cornelis (Jorrie) Jordaan (b. 1951), Emeritus Professor of New Testament Studies at the University of North-West (Potchefstroom Campus) which is run by Gereformeerde Kerk van Suid Afrika (GKSA), is a specialist in Greek grammar and New Testament textual criticism and exegesis. His doctoral dissertation was on “Die Beoordeling van Woordorde-Variante in die Evangelie volgens Lukas” (An Evaluation of the Word Order-Reading Variations in the Gospel of Luke, 1979). Upon receiving his doctoral degree, Jordaan became the Chair of Greek in the Department of Classical Studies at Potchefstroom University, and was ordained as a pastor of the GKSA in 1982, pastoring Viljoenskroon Church and Vanderbijlpark-Oos Church until 1988. And in 1989, he was appointed as a professor of New Testament at Potchefstroom University. While serving as a pastor and professor (1992-2002), he worked hard to integrate theology into the daily lives of the congregation as the editor-in-chief of Die Kerkblad, a monthly magazine for the general congregation of GKSA. This article explores the characteristics and contributions of Jordaan’s New Testament Greek text and discusses the direction it suggests for New Testament studies today.
