This study explored the vivid experiences and voices of practitioners at ‘Kkum-Miso’, a community childcare center operated based on Christian spirituality, using narrative analysis. It examined how community care networks and Christian spirituality are organically integrated and practiced. In modern Korean society, the rapid shift toward nuclear families and the widespread prevalence of dual-income households have deepened gaps in child care. This has emerged as a serious social challenge directly linked to the national issue of low birth rates. However, the current public care system has been criticized for its limitations: it primarily focuses on selective welfare based on income criteria, leaving middle-class children in a blind spot, and provides administratively convenient, standardized programs that fail to reflect children's emotional and individual needs in detail. Therefore, this study adopted the narrative inquiry methodology proposed by Clandinin and Connelly to grasp the dynamic context of the care field. Four practitioners from ‘Dream Smile’—a unique operational model providing afternoon childcare using senior community center spaces in Gangdong-gu, Seoul—were selected as research subjects. In-depth interviews and focus group interviews were conducted. Collected data were analyzed within a three-dimensional narrative inquiry framework encompassing temporality, sociality, and placeness. This process revealed the meaning and spiritual value of care experienced by practitioners in the field. The research findings are as follows. First, Dream Smile was a space where the core Christian values of ‘Hospitality’ and ‘Koinonia’ were concretely embodied. Staff unconditionally accepted the children, forming personal and reciprocal relationships that transcended the simple provider-recipient dynamic. Second, Dream Smile was confirmed to be an integrated care model where Winnicott's concept of the ‘Holding Environment’ functioned practically. It served as a space for holistic care that went beyond providing physical protection and safety, soothing children's emotional anxiety and supporting their spiritual growth. Third, the characteristic of ‘extended care’ was observed, where the influence of care did not remain confined to the individual child but transferred to the emotional stability of parents and the recovery of the entire local community. Fourth, through autonomous activities and open-space management that prioritized respecting children's agency, the process of children growing from passive recipients of protection into active community members was confirmed. Notably, this study identified Dream Smile as a ‘spiritual nurturing space’ where the vertical dimension of God's unconditional love and the horizontal dimension of equal care among community members are exquisitely integrated. This holds significant academic value as it provides a practical framework capable of driving qualitative change in care settings by integrating Henry Nouwen's theology of hospitality into existing welfare discourse. Based on these analytical findings, this study proposes: developing concrete care manuals grounded in hospitality and koinonia; establishing spiritual support systems to prevent burnout among care workers; strengthening close collaborative networks between local churches, civil society, and administrative agencies; and ensuring children's autonomy through self-directed care.

본 연구는 기독교 영성을 기반으로 운영되는 지역아동돌봄센터인 ‘꿈미소’ 종사자들의 생생한 경험과 목소리를 내러티브 분석법으로 탐구하여, 지역사회 돌봄 네트워크와 기독교 영성이 어떻게 유기적으로 통합되고 실천되는지 고찰하였다. 현대 한국 사회 는 급격한 핵가족화와 맞벌이 가구의 보편화로 인해 아동 돌봄의 공백이 심화되고 있 으며, 이는 국가적 차원의 저출산 문제와 직결되는 심각한 사회적 과제로 부상했다. 그러나 현행 공적 돌봄 체계는 주로 소득 기준에 따른 선별적 복지에 치중하여 중간 계층 아동들이 사각지대에 놓이게 만들고, 행정 편의적인 획일화된 프로그램을 제공 함으로써 아동의 정서적·개별적 욕구를 세밀하게 반영하지 못한다는 한계가 지적되어 왔다. 이에 본 연구는 돌봄 현장의 역동적인 맥락을 파악하기 위해 Clandinin과 Connelly가 제시한 내러티브 탐구 방법론을 채택하였다. 연구 대상으로는 서울시 강 동구에서 경로당 공간을 활용해 오후 시간대 아동 돌봄을 제공하는 독특한 운영 모델 인 ‘꿈미소’의 종사자 4명을 선정하여, 심층 인터뷰와 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 실시하였 다. 수집된 자료는 시간성, 사회성, 장소성이라는 3차원 내러티브 탐구 공간의 틀 안에서 분석되었으며, 이를 통해 종사자들이 현장에서 경험하는 돌봄의 의미와 영성적 가치를 도출하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 꿈미소는 기독교의 핵심 가치인 ‘환대(Hospitality)’와 ‘코이노니아(Koinonia)’ 정신이 구체적으로 구현된 공간이었다. 종 사자들은 아동을 조건 없이 수용하고, 단순한 서비스 제공자와 수혜자의 관계를 넘어 인격적이고 상호적인 관계를 형성하고 있었다. 둘째, 꿈미소는 대상관계이론가인 Winnicott 의 ‘안아주는 환경(Holding Environment)’ 개념이 실질적으로 작동하는 통합적 돌봄 모델임을 확인하였다. 이곳은 물리적 보호와 안전을 제공하는 단계를 넘어, 아동의 정 서적 불안을 달래고 영적 성장을 돕는 전인적 돌봄의 장으로 기능하고 있었다. 셋째, 돌봄의 영향력이 아동 개인에게 머물지 않고 부모의 정서적 안정과 지역공동체 전체 의 회복으로 전이되는 ‘확장적 돌봄’의 특성이 관찰되었다. 넷째, 아동의 주체성을 최 우선으로 존중하는 자치활동과 개방형 공간 운영을 통해, 아동들이 수동적인 보호 대 상에서 벗어나 능동적인 공동체 구성원으로 성장하는 과정을 확인하였다. 특히 본 연 구는 꿈미소가 하나님의 무조건적인 사랑이라는 수직적 차원과, 공동체 구성원 간의 평등한 돌봄이라는 수평적 차원이 절묘하게 결합된 ‘영성적 안아주기 공간’임을 규명 하였다. 이는 기존 복지 담론에 헨리 나우웬의 환대 신학을 접목하여 돌봄 현장의 질적 변화를 이끌어낼 수 있는 실천적 프레임워크를 제공했다는 점에서 학술적 의의가 크다. 이러한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 환대와 코이노니아에 기반한 구체적인 돌봄 매뉴얼 개발, 돌봄 종사자들의 소진 예방을 위한 영성적 지원 체계 구축, 지역 교회와 시민사회 및 행정기관 간의 긴밀한 협력 네트워크 강화, 그리고 아동의 자율성을 보 장하는 자율 이용형 돌봄 모델의 제도적 확산 등을 정책적·실천적 대안으로 제언한다.
