The purpose of this study is to propose a Christian interpretation of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) as one strategic approach to supporting healthy church life among congregants with histrionic tendencies. In church settings, the intense emotions and exaggerated behaviors of individuals with histrionic tendencies often become sources of interpersonal conflict, which may further exacerbate these tendencies into histrionic personality disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. This study aims to prevent such deterioration. To achieve this purpose, the study first examines the concept, characteristics, and typologies of personality disorders in order to better understand histrionic tendencies. Personality disorders are commonly classified into Clusters A, B, and C, and this study confirms that histrionic tendencies are closely associated with histrionic personality disorder within Cluster B. The diagnostic criteria for histrionic personality disorder are then presented, followed by an analysis of the behavioral characteristics of congregants with histrionic tendencies as they appear in church contexts, including patterns of interpersonal conflict and relationships with pastors. The behavioral features of congregants with histrionic tendencies in the church are discussed in terms of their desire for attention and recognition, misunderstandings regarding intimacy, and their perspectives on spirituality and communal order. These characteristics are further examined through themes such as the human desire for recognition, misconceptions of intimacy, distortions of spirituality and performative expressions of faith, and the potential disruption of communal order. Finally, as a strategic intervention to support congregants with histrionic tendencies, this study proposes a Christian interpretation and application process of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. REBT, originally developed by Albert Ellis, is a psychotherapeutic approach that aims to transform irrational belief systems into rational ones. As a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy known to be effective in treating histrionic personality disorder, the study reviews the core concepts, therapeutic model, and dialogical techniques of REBT. Through a Christian reinterpretation of REBT, the irrational beliefs of congregants with histrionic tendencies can be gently disputed, allowing for flexible cognitive restructuring. Grounded in a biblical view of history and worldview, this study further suggests that the modification of irrational beliefs can begin within the grace of God. As a literature-based inquiry exploring strategies to support congregants with histrionic tendencies, this study calls for further research from diverse perspectives.

본 연구의 목적은 연극성 성향 성도들의 건강한 교회 생활을 돕기 위한 전략의 하나 로서 합리적 정서행동치료를 기독교적으로 해석하여 제안하는 것이다. 교회 내 연극 성 성향 성도들의 극적인 감정과 과장된 행동들이 갈등의 원인이 되어 교회 안에 다 툼이 발생하거나 연극성 성향이 연극성 성격장애나 우울증, 불안장애로 악화되는 것 을 예방하고자 함이다. 본 연구는 먼저 연극성 성향을 이해하기 위해 성격장애의 개 념과 특징을 알아보고 유형을 고찰하였다. 성격장애는 A군 B군 C군으로 나눌 수 있 으며 연극성 성향이 B군의 연극성 성격장애와 맥락을 같이함을 확인하였다. 이어서 연극성 성격장애의 진단기준을 제시하고 교회 내에서 나타날 수 있는 연극성 성향 성 도들의 특징과 대인관계 갈등 양상, 목회자들과의 관계를 분석하였다. 연극성 성향 성 도들의 교회 내 행동특징은 관심과 인정에 대한 갈망, 친밀함에 대한 오해, 영성과 질 서에 대한 입장으로 나누어 서술되었다. 그리고 인간의 인정에 대한 갈망, 친밀함의 의미, 영성의 왜곡과 믿음의 전시, 공동체 질서의 와해 가능성으로 나누어 논의 되었 다. 마지막으로 연극성 성향의 성도들을 돕기 위한 전략의 하나로써 합리적 정서행동 치료를 기독교적으로 해석하여 진행과정을 제안하였다. 합리적 정서행동치료는 알버 트 엘리스가 창안한 심리치료 이론으로써 비합리적 사고체계를 합리적으로 변화시키는 것을 목표로 한다. 합리적 정서행동치료는 연극성 성격장애 치료에 효과적이라고 알려진 인지행동 치료 중 하나로서 개념, 치료모델, 대화법을 고찰하였다. 교회 내 연 극성 성향 성도들의 비합리적 신념은 기독교적으로 해석된 합리적 정서행동치료를 통해 부드러운 논박이 가능해지고 유연한 수정을 시도하게 됨을 서술하였다. 본 연구는 성경적 역사관과 세계관을 바탕으로 서술되었으며 비합리적 신념의 수정이 하나님의 은혜 안에 시작될 수 있음도 제안하였다. 본 연구는 연극성 성향의 성도들을 돕기 위한 전략을 탐구하는 문헌 연구로서 이후에 더 다양한 관점에서의 후속 연구를 촉구한다.
