The purpose of this study is to explore internal and external factors stimulating interest in the NBA among Korean and Chinese basketball fans based on push–pull theory. A classification framework grounded in push–pull theory was developed through a systematic literature review, followed by semi-structured in-depth interviews with NBA fans in Korea and China. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results indicate that internal factors include sense of accomplishment, belonging, knowledge and skill acquisition, aesthetics, enjoyment, escape from daily life, and social activities. External factors include star players, competition, media, marketing, convenience, communication, experience, games, and betting. Similar subfactors emerged across both dimensions. Synthesizing the findings, enjoyment, escape, and social activities were frequently linked as key internal drivers, whereas star players, competition, and media consistently emerged as central external factors influencing the formation and maintenance of interest.

본 연구의 목적은 푸시(push)–풀(pull) 이론을 기반으로 대한민국과 중국 농구 팬의 NBA 관심을 유발하는 내적 및 외적 요인을 탐색적으로 분 석하고자 한다. 기본적으로 체계적문헌고찰을 통해 푸시–풀 이론 기반의 분류체계를 도출한 후, 국내 및 중국의 NBA 팬 대상의 반구조화 심층면 담을 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 주제분석을 통해 결과를 도출하였다. 도출된 결과를 살펴보면 내적인 측면에서는 성취감, 소속감, 지식 및 기 술 습득, 미학, 즐거움, 일상 탈출, 사회적 활동과 같은 요인이 도출되었 다. 외적인 측면의 경우는 스타선수, 경쟁, 미디어, 마케팅, 편의성, 소통, 체험, 게임 및 배팅와 같은 요인이 확인되었다. 공통 요인의 경우 내적 및 외적 측면의 각 요인별로 유사한 세부요인들이 확인되었다. 도출된 결과를 종합하면, 본 자료에서 내적 요인으로는 즐거움, 일상 탈출, 사회 적 활동이 함께 언급되는 경향이 나타났으며, 외적 요인으로는 스타선 수, 경쟁, 미디어가 관심 형성 및 유지와 관련된 주요 요소로 반복적으 로 확인되었다.
