This article examines the contemporary significance of Confucian ecological ethics. It links 『ZhōuYì(周易)』and 『ZhōngYōng(中 庸)』to organismic theory, and then to Confucian ecological ethics. The organicist thinking contained in 『ZhōuYì(周易)』and 『ZhōngYōng(中庸)』is revealed through an analogical analysis of the connections. Based on this analysis, the article examines the contemporary significance of Confucian methods for cultivating the qualities and capabilities required of ecological citizens. The connection between 『ZhōuYì(周易)』and 『ZhōngYōng(中庸)』is subdivided into the concepts of conformity and inseparability, connection and union, and harmony and unity. The contemporary significance of Confucian ecological ethics is discussed with a focus on enhancing the ecological stability of temperament and developing ecological literacy. As this inquiry is grounded in organismic theory, the argument cannot be developed without considering the relationships between the yī[一] and duō[多], the bùfèn[部分] and quántǐ[全體], and tóng[同] and yì[異].
