This study conducted in-depth interviews with seven contemporary dance choreographers to explore the processes of music selection and use in choreographic creation, interactions between music and the body, and the formation of perceptions of music. The data were analyzed using a qualitative case study approach. The findings indicate that music functions as a core creative resource, selected and adjusted either prior to or following choreographic development and shaping choreographic structures through repeated editing and reconfiguration, while the relationship between music and the body is experienced in integrative or parallel ways, with music mediating emotion and meaning. Perceptions of music were shown to develop gradually through creative experience and musical education, with repeated choreographic practice leading to a more structural understanding of music. By highlighting the processual and relational significance of music in choreography, this study seeks to expand understanding of the use of music in contemporary dance creation.

본 연구는 현대무용 안무가 7명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하여, 안무 창작과정에서 음악의 선택과 활용, 음 악과 신체의 상호작용, 음악에 대한 인식 형성 과정을 탐구하였다. 자료는 질적 사례연구 방법으로 분석되었으 며, 그 결과 세 가지 영역이 도출되었다. 첫째, 음악은 작품의 방향성과 창작 태도에 따라 선행적 또는 후행적 으로 선택·조정되며, 반복적인 편집과 재구성을 통해 안무 구조 형성에 활용되었다. 둘째, 음악과 신체의 관계 는 융합적 또는 병렬적으로 경험되었고, 일부 안무가들은 음악을 감정과 의미를 매개하는 조정의 대상으로 인 식하였다. 셋째, 음악에 대한 인식은 창작 경험과 음악 교육 배경 속에서 점진적으로 형성·변화하였으며, 반복 된 창작 실천은 음악을 보다 구조적으로 인식하도록 이끌었다. 본 연구는 안무 창작과정에서 음악의 과정적·관 계적 의미를 조명함으로써 현대무용 창작에서 음악 활용에 대한 이해를 확장하고자 한다.
