This study examines the transmission lineage, school-specific differences, and changes in the transmission of Park Dong-jin’s version of Jeokbyeokga, with the aim of elucidating its synchronic and diachronic characteristics and historical significance. First, the transmission lineage of Jeokbyeokga is explored through a review of the lives and activities of Jeong Chun-pung, Park Gi-hong, Jo Hak-jin, and Park Dong-jin. Next, the lyrics of Park Dong-jin’s version are compared across schools and lineages to identify its distinctive features. Compared with the Gangsan and Dongpyeon versions, Park Dong-jin’s version contains significantly longer and richer lyrics, particularly in the expanded first half depicting the Battle of Jeokbyeok. By comparing the lyrics of Park Gi-hong and Jo Hak-jin, this study traces changes in the transmission process. The analysis reveals that while Park Dong-jin’s version preserves the genealogical framework and shares many lyrics with earlier versions, it also incorporates newly added passages and musical innovations. Over time, the lyrics expanded, musical variations became more diverse, and the performance evolved toward a more dramatic mode of expression. Park Dong-jin’s Jeokbyeokga holds particular historical significance in the history of pansori. First, it preserves key characteristics of the middle-class tradition, as reflected in its expanded narrative and the use of Ho-ryeong-jo and Seol-ryeong-je (both Korean traditional melodies). Second, the narrative develops toward a worldview aligned with the original text, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, emphasizing a hero-centered narrative and the theme of resonance. This orientation distinguishes it from the pansori worldview, which typically emphasizes reconciliation and tolerance. Third, Park Dong-jin’s Jeokbyeokga provides important insights into the transmission and development of pansori by demonstrating the singer’s distinctive creative approach. By reconstructing the middle-class tradition in his own style, Park Dong-jin exemplifies the creative potential of pansori performers.

본 연구는 박동진제 <적벽가>의 전승 계보, 유파별 차별성과 전승의 변화 등을 살펴봄으로써 공시적 통시적 특성과 전승사적 의미를 밝히고자 하였다. 먼저 <적 벽가>의 전승계보를 탐색하여 정춘풍, 박기홍, 조학진, 박동진의 생애와 활동 상황 을 정리했다. 다음으로 박동진 <적벽가>의 특성을 살펴보기 위하여 유파별, 계보 별 사설을 비교 검토하였다. 박동진제는 강산제나 동편제에 비해 매우 길고 풍부 한 사설이 수용되어 있으며, 특히 적벽대전 앞의 전반부가 확장되는 특성을 가지 고 있다. 또한 박기홍, 조학진의 사설 비교를 통해 전승상의 변화를 알아보고자 하 였다. 검토 결과 박동진 본은 계보상의 틀을 유지하여 비슷한 사설이 있는 반면, 새롭게 사설을 구성하거나 음악적 변화를 추구한 대목도 존재하였다. 점차 사설이 확장되고, 음악적 변화가 다채롭게 변화하여 극적인 표현이 강화되는 방향으로 나아갔다. 박동진의 <적벽가>가 지니는 판소리사적 의미는, 첫째 중고제적 특성을 간직한 <적벽가>라는 점에서 중요하다. 이야기의 확장이나 호령조, 설렁제의 사용 등이 중고제적 특성을 잘 반영하고 있다. 둘째, <적벽가>의 서사가 원전을 지향하는 세 계관으로 나아갔다. 원전 <삼국지연의>에서 보여주고 있는 영웅 중심의 서사와 공명 중심의 주제 의식 등이 박동진 본의 특징이라 할 수 있다. 이는 소설적 세계 관을 수용하고 있어서 화해나 관용에 초점을 두는 판소리적 세계관과 일정한 차별 성을 가진다. 셋째, 박동진의 <적벽가>는 다른 유파와 달리 박동진의 창조적 능력 을 볼 수 있다는 점에서 판소리의 전승 발전을 어떤 식으로 해야 할 것인가에 대한 시사점을 주고 있다. 박동진제 <적벽가>는 중고제적 전통 속에서 자신만의 스타 일로 재구성한 <적벽가>로, 명창의 창조적 역량을 보여주는 역할을 한다고 할 수 있다.
