This paper reviews Buddhist narrative materials related to Baekje that have been transmitted in the coastal areas of Chungnam and examines their historical significance through the lens of Buddhist culture and intercultural exchange reflected in these narratives. First, Chapter 2 examines the possibility of exchanges with Seojin and Dongjin in China from around the 4th century, during the Hanseong period. This analysis is based on the folktales of Won-Hongjang (元洪莊) handed down in the Daeheung County (大興 縣) region. In addition, the study estimates the location of the port in Kyeolgi County (Hongseong-gun, Chungnam) and the surrounding west coast. Chapter 3 reviews records of the Buddhist monk Hye-hyun (慧顯), who travelled from Sudeoksa (修德寺) Temple in the north to Dalnasansa (達拏山寺) Temple in the south. Through this case, the movement of Buddhist culture in the Chungnam region via maritime and overland routes is examined, with particular attention to the period of King Mu (武). Chapter 4 focusses on the monks Uigak (義覺) and Dojang (道藏) from the reign of King Uija (義慈), as depicted in narratives related to Hyangcheonsa (香泉寺) Temple in Yesan County. By comparing records of their migration to Wae with the content of the folk narratives, the study examines Buddhist cultural exchange with Wae and considers the historical significance of the Yesan County region.

본고는 충남 해안 지역에 전해지고 있는 백제 관련 불교 설화 자료들을 검토하 고, 여기에 보이는 불교 문화와 교류의 모습을 통해 그 역사적 의미를 살펴보았다. 먼저 2장에서는 大興縣(任存城) 지역에 전해지는 元洪莊 설화를 통해 한성기인 4세 기 전후부터 중국 서진․동진과의 교류 가능성을 살폈다. 그리고 여기서 가까운 서 해안인 結己郡(충남 홍성군 일대) 지역의 포구를 추정하였다. 3장에서는 법화 승려 慧顯이 北部 修德寺에서 南方 達拏山寺로 이동했다는 기록을 검토하였다. 이를 통 해 武王 시기를 중심으로 한 충남 지역 불교 문화의 바닷길과 육상 교통로를 통한 이동에 대하여 알아보았다. 4장에서는 예산 香泉寺 설화에 보이는 義慈王 시기의 승려인 義覺과 道藏에 대하여 검토하였다. 그들의 渡倭 기록을 설화 내용과 비교하 면서 왜와의 불교 문화 교류와 예산(烏山縣) 지역의 의미에 대하여 살펴보았다.
