Paying attention to the fact that webtoons have emerged as a major narrative form responsible for a new realism in contemporary literature, this study aims to examine the method of figuring labor reality in Choi Kyu-sok’s 『Songgot』(2013~2017) and its literary significance. To this end, this study adopts Antonio Negri and Michael Hardt’s theories of 『Empire』, 『Multitude』, and 『Commonwealth』 as an analytical framework to investigate the neoliberal governmentality embodied in 『Songgot』 and the formation process of new resistance subjects opposing it. The large mart ‘Fourmis’, which serves as the main background of the work, is a microcosm of the Empire where neoliberal governmentality is materialized. The biopower operating in Fourmis manages the bodies and emotions of workers through standardized uniforms, mechanical smiles, and spatial control. This demonstrates that modern labor control has evolved beyond physical coercion into a method of capturing the workers’ affect and their entire mode of life. What cracks this imperial control is the solidarity of singularities. Lee Soo-in’s refusal of the Empire’s unjust orders serves as an existential struggle of an isolated individual to protect his dignity and functions as a catalyst connecting the fragmented multitude. The important point here is that the multitude is not completed by a single hero, but by the organic combination of a majority of workers. This is because the singularity of the multitude that destroys the Empire is reborn as a solid network only when the power of workers, awakened for survival, combines horizontally. In this regard, the scene in the conclusion where the isolated Lee Soo-in, who has been relegated, connects with his colleagues again via email can be seen as a symbol showing that the Empire’s attempt to neutralize the multitude through physical disconnection is powerless before the solidarity of the Commonwealth.

본고는 웹툰이 현대문학의 새로운 리얼리즘을 담당하는 주요한 서사 양식으로 부상했 음에 주목하여, 최규석의 『송곳』에 나타난 노동 현실의 형상화 방식과 그 문학적 의의를 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 안토니오 네그리와 마이클 하트의 『제국』과 『다중』, 그리고 『공통체』의 이론을 분석 방법론으로 삼아, 『송곳』에 구현된 신자유주의적 통치성과 이에 대항하는 새로운 저항 주체의 형성 과정을 고찰하였다. 『송곳』의 주요 배경이 되는 대형마트 푸르미는 신자유주의적 통치성이 구체화된 제국 의 축소판이다. 푸르미에서 작동하는 생체 권력은 획일화된 유니폼과 기계적인 미소, 그리고 공간 통제를 통해 노동자의 신체와 감정을 관리한다. 이는 현대의 노동 통제가 물리적 강제력을 넘어, 노동자의 정동과 삶의 양식 전체를 포획하는 방식으로 진화했음을 보여 준다. 이러한 제국의 통제에 균열을 내는 것은 특이성들의 연대다. 제국의 부당한 지시에 대한 이수인의 거부 행위는 고립된 개인이 존엄을 지키기 위해 발휘하는 실존적 투쟁이자, 파편화된 다중을 연결하는 촉매로서의 기능을 수행한다. 여기서 중요한 점은 다중이 한 사람의 영웅에 의해 완성되는 것이 아니라 다수의 노동자가 유기적으로 결합하여 완성된다는 사실이다. 제국을 파괴하는 다중의 특이성은 생존을 위해 각성한 노동자들의 힘이 수평적으로 결합할 때 비로소 견고한 네트워크로 거듭나게 되기 때문이다. 그런 점에서 결말에서 좌천을 당하여 고립된 이수인이 동료들과 이메일을 통해 다시 연결되는 장면은, 제국이 물리적인 단절을 통해 다중을 무력화하고자 했던 시도가 공통체의 연대 앞에선 무력함을 보여주는 상징이라고 할 수 있다.
