In this paper, I critically examine how the principle of charity is read off and used in the literature of informal logic literature. I believe the principle of charity is originated from Davidson's one(Davidson 2004). Based on this, I examine whether this principle is properly understood and used. And I argue that it is justified to apply the principle to argument analysis. In addition, considering Brouwer’s concept of the Subject, I claim that applying the principle to informal or ordinary argument is so pedagogically effective.

본 논문에서 필자는 비형식 논리 관련 문헌들에서 자비의 원리가 이해되고 사용 되는 방식을 비판적으로 검토한다. 먼저, 필자는 거기의 자비의 원리는 데이비드슨(D. Davidson)에서 비롯된 것이라는 가정하에, 과연 그 이해와 사용이 적절한지를 살펴본다. 둘째, 필자는 그 원리를 낱말이나 문장이 아닌 논증에 사용하는 것은 정당하다고 주장한다. 끝으로, 브라우워(, L.E.J. Brouwer)의 주체 개념을 고려할 경우, 그 원리를 비형식 논증 혹은 일상의 논증에 적용하는 것은 특히 교육적 차원에서 효과적이라고 주장한다.
