This paper aims to discuss the ideology revealed in Namgok Deokmyeong's Dharma talks from a tentative perspective. A full examination of the thoughts revealed in his Dharma talks will be postponed until later, and instead, a basic introduction will be provided. This is because the sermons and ideological themes contained in the diary presented in "Bimangnok(비망록)"(Records of Buddhist Monks) cover a wide range of topics. First, in "Life of Namgok Deokmyeong," I briefly reviewed the life of Deokmyeong as described in Buddhist newspapers and "Dongsan Research." Next, in "Recollections," I present the diary written during Deokmyeong's tenure as abbot, as well as the self-proclaimed "Bimangnok" (Records of Forgetfulness) written at Anjeoksa Temple after his retirement. Third, in "Acquisitions of the Master's Life," I summarize the Dharma talks at the Anjeoksa Temple release ceremony and Beomeosa Temple as found in "Bimangnok." Fourthly, Samhakilwon(三學一元) examined the Brahma Net Sutra Bodhisattva Precepts Edition(梵網經菩薩戒本) translated by Deokmyeong himself and discussed the unity of precepts, seon meditation, and wisdom, or the non-duality of seon precepts.

본 논문은 시론(試論)적인 입장에서 논해 보려고 하였다. 남곡덕명의 법어에 드러난 사상의 본격적인 검토는 이후로 미루고 기초적인 내용을 소개하였다. 왜냐하면『비망록』에 소개된 일기 속의 설법내용과 사상적 주제는 매우 다양한 내용을 다루고 있기 때문이다. 먼저 남곡덕명의 생애(生涯)에서는 불교신문과『동산 연구』에 소개된 덕명이 살았던 내용을 간략히 살펴서 소개하였다. 다음에 추상(追想)은 덕명이 주지 소임 기간에 작성한 일기와 더불어 범어사 주지 퇴임 후에 안적사에서 작성한 자칭『비망록』이라는 내용을 소개하였다. 셋째는 조사선의 체득에서는『비망록』에 안적사 방생회 법어와 범어사 법어를 정리해보았다. 넷째로 삼학일원(三學一元)은 덕명이 몸소 번역한 󰡔범망경보살계본(梵網經菩薩戒本)󰡕을 검토하여 계율과 참선, 지혜의 일원(一元) 또는 선계불이(禪戒不二)에 대해서 논하였다.
