Analyzing the Causes and Mitigation Strategies for Highway Crashes in Myanmar : A Case Study of the Naypyidaw Expressway
초록
영어
Traffic crashes in Myanmar present a critical global issue where rapid motorization has severely outpaced the development of adequate road infrastructure and legal enforcement, leading to a high fatality rate. This study employed a dual methodology, combining quantitative data analysis of vehicle trends and crash frequency with qualitative insights from interviews to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of the causes. Findings highlight significant systemic gaps, including poor road conditions, deficient law enforcement, and outdated vehicle inspection practices, as major contributors to accident severity and frequency. The research concludes that these deep seated deficiencies exacerbate crash rates, particularly due to human negligence and a surge in inexperienced drivers. Addressing the severe socioeconomic toll requires an immediate and holistic national approach that advocates for upgraded infrastructure meeting international standards, the adoption of rigorous traffic legislation, and broader public awareness campaigns.
