In the history of modern Korean literature, the question of a return to being has not been sufficiently explored. However, Jang Seok-nam's early poetry clearly illustrates this idea of a return to being. As noted previously, this return to being constitutes a kind of postmodern thought, representing an escape from the modern oblivion of being. Jang Seok-nam's early poetry encapsulates this core literary issue, simultaneously, also embodying postmodern reflection. His poetry serves as a point of contact for connecting the popular poetic theme of motherhood in Korean literature in the 1990s with the ontological reflection of return. In his works, he demonstrates a remarkably clear postmodern thought. This clarity is evident in his vivid portrayal of the dark self-consciousness of modern man, imprinted by fatherhood, symbolized by modernity, and in the process of overcoming this self-consciousness. This transformation is achieved by returning to the broad and deep embrace of motherhood (or nature/existence).
